Wrong detection of first page/cover, two-page split

Post by nver »

PDF XChange viewer is the smoothest pdf viewer I've seen on windows and with good quality too. But I have one little problem. Is there a way to tell the viewer wether the first page of pdf document is cover or not. The viewer always considers it a cover and sometimes it is wrong and two-page images or articles are split in "Facing" Page Layout mode. I uploaded an example of such situation as attachment. In it the image of a helicopter is split, although it should be continuous.

I don't think there is any way that a PDF Viewer could detect the page numbering scheme you have used in your document. Note that the PDF Page Number in the viewer is not the same as the number in print.

All a viewer could do is offer to start the first page on the left. By default, facing pages means show the first (cover) page on the right. If your PDF does not contain blank pages, then the issue is even more complex.

What I suggested in this related thread is to offer a horizontal slideshow mode. Then it doesn't matter what the pagination scheme is, you will always be able to view facing pages side by side.
