FF 3 Crashes opening PDF

Post by lbdyck »

Firefox 3 crashes when I try to open this pdf: http://www.vm.ibm.com/devpages/mullenra/SHARE111.pdf

I have uninstalled Acrobat and have set PDFXchange Viewer as the default.

See this earlier thread.

Which version of PDF-XChange are you using? Are you using the plugin for Firefox or are you trying to launch the PDF in the external reader from Firefox?

The file doesn't cause a crash for me in the PDF-XChange Opera plugin.

No problem in the IE7 plugin either.

The plugin should be installed in your Firefox plugin folder automatically. Check your Firefox settings to make it use the plugin.

I see it there and it is enabled. I did try something else - I uninstalled adobe reader 9 and then reinstalled reader 8 and then set pdfxchange viewer to the default once again.

Sadly the problem still exists.

Please replace manually file npPDFXCviewNPPlugin.dll into plugins folder of FF by the corresponding file from Viewer's installation folder.
Let me know if the problem still exists.

Here are the file size/date info:

In the FF Plugins:
07/02/2008 11:46 PM 144,576 npPDFXCviewNPPlugin.dll

In the PDFX-Change Viewer folder:
05/16/2008 07:33 PM 142,528 npPDFXCviewNPPlugin.dll

I'm going to copy now and restart FF and will post an update in a couple of minutes.

Thats very strange. All .dll and .exe files into build 39 RC2 should be dated 04/08/2008 (m/d/y).

Hi Ivan,

There is timestamp mistake in both 39 RC1 & RC2 builds, they have timestamp shifted about one month back
(RC1 from 1. August have timestamp from 1. July and RC2 from 4. August have timestamp from 2. July)

It looks that "lbdyck" have installed older version of the viewer than version of plugin used by Firefox. Maybe complete uninstall/install of the viewer will help.

It's strange, please check also your plugins in firefox - is Adobe Acrobat plugin disabled? Do You have some another PDF related plugin installed/enabled?
