Glitch copying text from pdf to word processor

Post by MauriceW »

Greetings.

I am very pleased with my recent installation of PDF-XChange PDF Viewer from installer ver 2.0.39.0 (July 2008).

However, when copying highlighted text from a pdf to my word processor (Atlantis) there is a persistent glitch:

"fi" and "fl" are copied as "?"

Does anyone else experience similar effects?

(Some time ago I had similar problems with Foxit ver2.0)

The problem lies with your WordProcessor. The Alphabetic Presentation Forms, fi and fl, will copy successfully from PDF-XChange or any PDF Reader to Wordpad, Notepad, or OpenOffice, or indeed to Opera browser, but not all wordprocessors support Unicode. In PagePlus 9 DTP too, these glyphs will be pasted as ? ? because it doesn't support Unicode.

Bhikkhu Pesala,

You got it in One !!

Copying the problematic text into Notepad or Wordpad was OK.
However, copying the same text from them to Atlantis produced the same glitch with "fi" >> "?"

Over the years, I have found Atlantis to be my most useful WP,
since it accepts pictures from PDFs much more conveniently than MSWord. Open Office is just too slow to load, and I have found its pdf handling to be suspect (i.e. non-standard).

Sadly, seems that the idol has feet of clay.

Thankyou so much for your help.
