Build 396 Scanning/OCR Problem

Post by Arnold »

Scanning using my Brother MFC295CN printer/scanner is not possible with build 396. It seems to stop when the OCR is set to begin after scanning is complete. Reinstalled the driver just in case, but it did not help.

I notice there was a fix for a scanning problem in the new version. Might that have something to do with it? Reinstalled build 395 and the problem is gone.

Thanks

Hello, Arnold

Thank you for the report, I was unable to reproduce the issue on this end, are you able to reproduce the issue in the portable version as well, or is this exclusive to the installed 396 application?

If you can reproduce this in the portable, it would be ideal, since it wouldnt impact your daily use.

Now, in either case, the first thing to test is temporarily rename these two folders (You will need to close the Editor before doing so):
image.png
(simply add ".old" or something similar to the folder names)
After renaming those folders, please try to scan once again, and let me know if that helps at all.

If the issue is fixed by this change, please close the Editor, revert that change, and follow these steps to record a process dump form the Editor, while it is stuck at the OCR phase. https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowledgeba ... estigation

If the issue occurs in both states, please record a process dump immediately, putting it in a folder named "no-dll-issue". Then revert the change, and record a second process dump, naming this folder "with-dll-issue".

After either process, please Zip and upload the process dump files here for investigation: https://files.pdf-xchange.com/s/YFRj2Jmkw9xz6xr
Let me know when the upload is complete, this link will remain valid for 10 days, if you need more time, please let me know and I can easily refresh it.

Kind regards,

Hi Arnold,
can we arrange a remote session to discover this situation? What time works best for you, and which time zone are you in? Thanks!

I tried using the portable version and it did not work either. Went into the directory of the portable version and changed directory names x86 and x64 with same result. The dll's contained in those directories seem to be the same in 396 as in 395.

I am on Eastern time which is 3 hours ahead of you I believe. I can make myself available when it is convenient for you guys. I just have to reinstall 396 beforehand.

Thanks
