When you hover the mouse cursor over Bookmarks pane etc., the item directly below the mouse cursor is inverted in a light blue color, which seems to be called hover indication in the UI/UX design world. I'd like to report a little odd behavior I've noticed related to this hover indication.
When an item is selected in the Bookmarks pane, for example, and then dragged to change its position, it would seem that the screen effect should be the same no matter where in the selected items the drag is initiated. However, for some reason, the hover indication may or may not be displayed when dragging upward from the top half of the first item, or when dragging in any other way.
Please refer to the following verification procedure for details. The corresponding timecode in the video is also included. ([MM:SS] "MM" shows minutes, and "SS" shows seconds.)
- [00:05] Create a new document with 100 pages. Any appropriate values will do.
[00:13] Use the "Bookmark Every N-th Page" feature to bookmark all pages with the corresponding page number.
[00:18] 1A: After selecting "Page 10" to "Page 14" in the Bookmarks pane, click on the bottom half of "Page 10" and start dragging. More precisely, it can be from anywhere except the top half of "Page 10", indicated by the yellow marker in 1A on the left of the figure below. In this case, the hover indication will not appear. Finally, move the mouse cursor to the original selected area and release the mouse button to cancel the bookmark movement.
[00:29] 1B: Click on a position in the top half of "Page 10", then move the mouse upward and start dragging. In this case, for some reason, the hover indication appears at the position of the "Page 9" bookmark. Finally, cancel the bookmark movement.
[00:36] 1C: Click on the position of the top half of "Page 10" and then move the mouse down once, followed by an immediate upward movement to start dragging. In this case, the hover indication will not appear. Finally, cancel the bookmark movement.
[00:45] 2A: Select additionally the bookmarks from "Page 18" to "Page 20". Then drag from the bottom half of the "Page 18" bookmark as in 1A and confirm that the hover indication does not appear.
[00:55] 2B: As with 1B, drag upward from the top half of the "Page 18" bookmark and confirm that the hover indication appears at the position of the "Page 17" bookmark.
[01:02] 2C: As with 1C, click on the top half of the "Page 18" bookmark, then move the mouse down once, followed immediately by moving it upward to start dragging, and confirm that the hover indication does not appear.
- The capture software used (ScreenToGif) displays a yellow circle around the mouse cursor when the left mouse button is clicked
and a red circle when the right mouse button is clicked, so you can tell which mouse button was clicked just by looking at the screen.
The video shows what happens in the Bookmarks pane, but the situation is exactly the same in the Contents pane, Layers pane, and so on. This is such a trivial matter that I am hesitant to report it because it does not affect the result of the operation and it is only a visual difference. Perhaps there is even a possibility that there is some meaning to it that I just don't understand. However, I think it might be less confusing to the user if the hover indication is not displayed in all cases.
Hoping that the above information will be of some help to you.
Thank you so much for your continued support.
Best regards,
rakunavi
