PDF-XChange Pro

Post by pdf@pdfxchange.editor »

I purchased PDF-XChange Pro to upgrade from PDF-XChange Editor, and tried installing the software. However, after accepting the licence agreement, the "Next" button on the next dialogue is disabled (Greyed out). I therefore cannot proceed with the upgrade. Please assist!

Please note that I added my Pro licence key via the automated process with the vault file before installing the upgrade. I'm not sure if that is where the problem could be.

I'd be greatly obliged for a prompt reply, as my work's being held up.

Hello, pdf@pdfxchange.editor

Thank you for the report, by any chance are you on the screen where you are being asked for a "complete" or "custom" installation? If so, the Next button is disabled by windows there, as you need to click on the buttons beside the respective button. I have asked the Dev team if we can make clicking "next" at this stage simply assume a complete installation process, but it seems there is some difficulty with that option.

I should also note that it is not advised to simple install PRO directly overtop of an existing Editor installation. As there are different installation bundles, they are not aware of one another, and so you will effectively have two installers controlling the Editor directory. Please do manually uninstall (via the windows control panel) before you run the PRO installer. to ensure you do not experience any issues with updates in the future.

Hi Daniel

I tried selecting an installation option, but those buttons are also disabled. The only button that is enabled on the dialogue is the "Back" button, which takes me back to the Agreement that I had already accepted. Just a thought, I have my current PDF-XChange Editor activated on two devices (PC's). Would I perhaps have to delete them from my Activations List, effectively de-activating them, first?

Also, in your reply you said that I should manually uninstall my existing Editor version of the software. I am happy to do so, however, I purchased the Pro version as an upgrade of the Editor version, at the upgrade price. I recall reading somewhere that, in order for the upgrade installation to work, an existing version of the software has to exist. Would uninstalling my current Editor version not create a problem in this regard?

Like I said, I'm happy to uninstall my existing Editor version and to de-activate my existing Editor installations by deleting them form my Activations list, but I need to be absolutely clear that I am doing the right thing.

Please reply ASAP, as my work is being held up badly.

Kind regards,

PS: PDF-XChange is looking like just the ticket for me, way better than Adobe Acrobat! Just need to get my challenges sorted out, like yesterday!

Hello, pdf@pdfxchange.editor

At that stage of the installation, the installer has no awareness of your licensing status so there is no way it could have an impact on this. Could I ask for a screenshot of the part the installer is stuck at?

As for the uninstall, I would be quite curious to see where you read that, as it is most certainly incorrect, and I would like to fix it if it is present on our website. In any case, yes it is safe to uninstall via the control panel first, it will not impact your upgrade process.

All of our installers are a full installation package, which automatically uninstalls the previous version of the same product when they are run. None of them ever require a previous version to be installed, most definitely not for upgrades to different products, as those are entirely different product installations, and technically can exist side by side without removing one another (but may lead to issues with future updates, as mentioned before).

Hi Daniel

RE: Above subject matter.

Thank you for your reply and please accept my sincere apology for not getting back to you sooner. I live in Greytown in KZNatal, South Africa, and had been in Johannesburg since Thursday last week (a round trip distance of +/- 1,100kms by car).

Please ignore my installation button issue, it has been resolved. I had to click the "Custom" or "Complete" button itself instead of clicking on the label alongside either button, as is the case with other software.

Hello, pdf@pdfxchange.editor

No worries there, a small delay like this is nothing on a public forum. I am very glad to hear you were able to proceed with the installation!
