Two behaviors related to the "Spreadsheet Split" feature

Post by rakunavi »

Hello all,

As usual, these are very minor issues, but I would like to report two behaviors related to the "Spreadsheet Split" feature of PDF-XChange Editor.

Bahavior #1

  • PDF-XChange Editor allows you to enable or disable the scroll bar using command line options. As I mentioned in my previous post, if you register each command separately as a launch command in the Preferences dialog, you can easily enable or disable the scroll bar from the toolbar button, although there is a limitation that only existing files (that have been saved in advance) are targeted. Even after executing "Horizontal Split" or "Vertical Split", toggling the scroll bar on or off at any time will function as expected.

    • PDFXChangeEditorSettings.zip
However, I noticed that if you cancel the "Spreadsheet Split" after performing the following operations (in any order), the scroll bar will not be enabled even if you enable it, unless you execute the "Spreadsheet Split" again.

    • Execute the "Spreadsheet Split"
    • Disable the scroll bar
The verification procedure is as follows. Please check the video for details.

    1. Open any PDF file.
    2. Execute the "Spreadsheet Split".
    3. Disable the scroll bar from the Launch command.
    4. Cancel the "Spreadsheet Split" to return to the normal view mode.
    5. Even if you enable the scroll bar from the Launch command, the scroll bar will not be displayed.
    6. When you execute "Horizontal Split", for some reason, the scroll bar is displayed in only one view.
    7. Only when you execute the "Spreadsheet Split" again, the scroll bar will be displayed.

Bahavior #2

  • The Split command (ID: cmd.window.split) is both a command that enables either the most recently performed "Horizontal Split" or "Vertical Split", and a command that cancels them. If you execute it multiple times, you can toggle between enabling and disabling Horizontal/Vertical Split. However, this does not include "Spreadsheet Split". In other words, even if you have recently executed "Spreadsheet Split", if you execute the split command after canceling it, either Horizontal/Vertical Split will be executed.

Currently, "Horizontal Split", "Vertical Split", and "Spreadsheet Split" are not treated equally, and "Horizontal Split" and "Vertical Split" are prioritized in the implementation. From one perspective, this might appear to be unintended behavior by developers, so I am reporting it for reference.

Hoping that the above information will be of some help to you.
Thank you so much for your continued support.

Best regards,
rakunavi
