Add a Signature to 'Protected' Documents

Post by 1tsm »

I would really really like to be able to use the "Sign Document" feature when I'm filling out a PDF document, regardless of whether or not it's Protected.

I understand that Sign Document is meant to then Protect / lock the document etc, but I just want to use my signature on a PDF document in my favourite, best PDF software.

Yes, I could stamp, but that's a cludge/workaround.

Maybe there can be a non-protective signature?

Hello, 1tsm

The "cludge/Workaround" solution you mentioned there, using a signature stamp (or similarly inserting an image manually), is the only method to place a signature graphic without a security component.

The PDF Specification dictates how digital signature certificates must be treated in the PDF format, unfortunately while it is possible to "relax" the restrictions which are put in place (using the permissions dropdown while signing) it is not possible to have the file entirely unsecured while a certificate is in place.
This is core to the Specification for PDF, and all PDF software need to adhere to that, or they risk lasting damaging your files, leading to corruption or data loss over time.
