Independent Panes views when documents in tab group or separate windows SOLVED

When working with multiple documents, I find it useful to split the documents to separate windows on separate monitors. It also works to split to different "tab groups". But in both of these cases, the application insists on having the same pane (Bookmarks/Thumbnails/Comments/etc) active in both views; and insists that the pane be hidden or shown in both. I'm often working with large documents, so every inch of screen space is important. I'll typically only be marking up on one of the documents, so the useful pane and tools would be different from that of reference document(s).

Is there a way that the status of the pane can be set individually for each document view?

Not as the app is presently configured, I believe.

But it would be nice to have the option of de-linking the panels in multi-window mode.

As far as I know the only to overcome this is to run a portable version.
