Change color without changing style?

It seems like everything has a unique style, with each style being tied to a specific color. It's driving me nuts that whenever I change the color, the entire style changes along with it. Is there anyway to make it where the style settings remain the same no matter what color I'm using? Thanks!

If I cycle between the pencil style, each one has the option to customized multiple parameters relating to it(width, opacity, etc.). I understand why there is the option to customize each pen style, but my problem is that whenever I change the settings (lets say I changed red to 6 pt), click another color, and come back to red, it's back to the settings it was at before I changed it to 6 pt. I want settings to stay, but they are constantly slingshotting back to how they were before. I would hope the default would be to remember what I changed the parameters to last, not to what it was originally set to.

The style options are intended to load from the selected "style" when chosen.
If you wish to change only the color, and leave the other items in place - you need only change the color from the color palette dropdown directly:
