Pattern matching for redacting

Post by mibrzycki »

Hello! I have many pages of payroll reports where social security numbers are displayed: XXX-XX-1234 (or other combinations of 4 digits at the end. I am trying to get Editor to perform pattern matching to mark those numbers for redaction and cannot figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello, mibrzycki

The simplest method would be to use the patterns function for the Find and redact tool, simply enable the option as shown here, and you should be good to go:

If they are written in some other special patterns [EG; 1-234-5-678-9], than you may need to us the "single word or phrase" option, and learn how to use regular expressions.

I am afraid that I am not an expert on these so I cannot offer much, but "RegExp" is a common set of terms for which there are many helpful resources online. Any of those should help you to build a search string.

Kind regards,
