Editor Plus Installation hangs at "validating install" - v10.8.2.407/64bit/MSI

Post by sniemetz »

Here there,

I use a company laptop with Win11 that employs Windows security - No Kaspersky or other virus checker.
I have a prior version running fine (installed, 10.5.2)

The MSI 64bit installer version 10.8.2.407 opens and then hangs half-way through during "Validating install"
There are no notifications / security errors - the installer just stops as in the screenshot.

The portable edition version 10.8.2.407 works fine.

Update:
I tried the install repeatedly.
I killed the msiexec processes related to the installer - installer said "couldn't connect to Windows installer" and stopped.
Product: PDF-XChange Editor -- Error 1719. The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.
Re-running installer = installed ok, the app works and recognized my key.

The only error I see (Application error) is this - not sure it's related
.NET Runtime version 4.0.30319.0 - There was a failure initializing profiling API attach infrastructure. This process will not allow a profiler to attach. HRESULT: 0x80004005. Process ID (decimal): 63304. Message ID: [0x2509].
Any suggestions?

Hi, sniemetz

thanks for the report. That specific error is not one I've seen before, it may be related, but before I ask for help from the devs we need to check some boxes.
  • Have you restarted the laptop since the installation?
  • Is the behaviour reproducible?
  • Does the Editor function after that message appears?
  • Can we get a screenshot of the message please?
Best regards
