English/Obsolete - Unable to update

I have release 10.8.4.409, installed 3/04/2026 on Windows 11

Today I tried to OCR a page, when I Convert/OCR from the tool bar in recognition options English is not listed. Only Czech which I used recently.

When I click add languages, it shows me a list with Czech installed as well as English which is marked Yellow and installed, obsolete. If I click it I can uninstall. Japanese is in the same state. If I uninstall, I get this failure "X Unable to upgrade the component 'EnglishJapanese': The system cannot find the file specified."

I'll try a reboot and a reinstall but otherwise not sure what happened here?

A reboot allowed me to install English and Japanese languages, but trying to OCR using English on an English page resulted in

I've had this before for no know reason. I'll uninstall and reinstall and reboot again. I really don't get why updating languages in updates causes problems in an otherwise fantastic app.

Uninstall/reboot/install/reboot fixed the problem.

Seemed unnecessarily complex.

Nah, something is still not right. I know I'm trying to OCR some odd pages but the app shouldn't just "Catastrophic failure".

Hello, all

This is most likely a bug introduced by a recent windows logging feature that incorrectly restricts access to necessary OCR files. You have two options here:

1. Some users have found that running the registry key present here can disable the feature. In some cases this can resolve the issue:

Simply download and unzip the archive, then double click on the "reg" file contained within.
After that, restart your PC and try running our OCR once again.

2. If that does not work, than I am afraid a Windows update has unexpectedly broken this after your version was released. We are unable to fix it in that version. As such, you will need to reinstall the software, or update to the latest release, which may require you to renew maintenance on your license, to retain access to all of your licensed features.
