Printing dialog: How to setup defaults?

Post by marce »

Hi, long time user of PDF-Xchange, specially for printing. I want to know if it is possible to set as default the "Current" page for printing, as well as some others settings. Usually PDF-Xchange remembers the last settings when i re-open the printing dialog, but in the case of the Pages "All, Current, Custom" it always goes back to "All". I have made some mess because to forget to change from "All" to "Current" or "Custom" sometimes, and i want to know if is possible. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Just for information...

A discussion about this started in 2014 and ended (for now) past month (April 8, 2026) telling that the request has been rejected.

See: viewtopic.php?t=20835

Kind regards.

Hi Willy, thanks your reply. Reading the topic you linked for me, if i understand correctly, what i am requesting was the default, but it was changed to "All pages" after this request?

Indeed.

In the best case there should be two options in the Print dialog-box:
- one to always return to "All Pages" after each print, and
- an other to remember the last printed pages (per open document).

Maybe there is still a small chance that the PDF-XChange Development Team will change its idea about this...

Kind regards.

NOTE:
I do not know if someone is interested in the following possibility:
Via File > Document Properties > Advanced, you can set the preferred "Print Page Range" for the given PDF.
This setting will be reflected in the Print dialog-box.

Maybe this can help in specific circumstances ?

IMHO, the best solution is to let the user choose their prefered setting. As is commonly used in many programs using presets and/or settings windows, a button called "make current choices default" or similar let the user to set their current preference as default.
I understand the case exposed in the linked thread —an office daily work— but in my case and others, the situation is completely different. I print over an over the current page, or a custom range because my printers limitations, and needed rest time between copies.
So, in any case, giving the user the freedom to set their own defaults could make happy everyone.

Edit: I will try the setting you pointed me, thanks!
Edit2: This setting is great! it do the difference in my case. But you need to edit the document properties. In the suggest i made, it is not related to the document, which could be great too. Anyway, thanks again.
