Manoeuvre a stamp after inserting it

Post by card trix »

I use stamps as an overlay to check that I have the correct drawing with another drawing.

If I create a stamp and then place it on the page, I sometimes need to rotate it and position it exactly to the underlying PDF.

But as soon as I have placed it, I then can't select it again to rotate it or nudge it into position.

Should I be using stamps to achieve sanity checks or use some other way of checking one PDF with another?

Is this not possible, or am I doing something wrong?

If it isn't possible, can I submit an enhancement request, so in the future this is something that can be added?

Most likely you have the Exclusive Mode enable. Disabling it will let you select a stamp. One other way is to select a stamp by clicking on it in the Comments pane.

Hi Lev,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I can't find where Exclusive mode is, but I am able to select the stamp when I click on it in Comments.

Unfortunately, even though it is highlighted and the nodes are available in the corner and the one above for rotation, none of the selection tools let me do anything with it.

I can't even use the nudge command to move it.

I appreciate your help, though, so thank you.

Hi,

Make sure that via File > Preferences > Commenting, the check-box at "Auto-select newly created comment", is turned off.
Click Apply and OK.

After that, click the down-symbol on the Stamp-icon in the Comments-ribbon, and then click one of the stamps. You will see that an additional tab "Stamping Tools/Format" becomes available. Click that "Format"-tab to see the corresponding ribbon.
In that ribbon you should normally see the icons/toggle buttons for "Keep Selected" and "Exclusive Mode".
See if it helps when you turn off (toggle) these two icons.

Kind regards.

Hello,

It is also notable, that stamps are "comment" items, not "base content" items. You will need to ensure you have a commenting tool (including the "hand" or "select comments" tools) enabled to interact with it. If you have enabled the "edit objects" tool, you are intentionally unable to select a stamp.

Willy and Daniel,

Thanks for the information, it now works a treat.

I would never have worked this out myself!

I'm not sure if other people use the Editor in the same way as I do to check whether someone has altered a drawing or artwork, but if they do, would a possible feature for the future be an overlay command to overlay one pdf onto another to compare them?

Just a thought.

Thanks again for the help, and I'm glad I've found a way to do what I want.

Comparison of drawings is already possible, via "overlay", indeed.

See: viewtopic.php?p=193212#p193212

You can find the "Overlay"-pages icon in the "Organize"-ribbon.

First open one pdf, then click "Overlay" and from there, open the second pdf.

Be sure to select the colors and blend mode like indicated by the red rectangles in the screenshot.

Kind regards.

Thanks, Willy, I'm ashamed to say I never noticed that button before.

Sadly, I don't think it works the way I envisaged it working.

The overlaid entities are editable individually, so there is no way to move the overlaid PDF as a whole around in relation to the base file.

It seems to me the Overlay function is more for comparing two documents of the same size and content to detect changes.

If I try and overlay a bigger document than the one I am using, all of the elements of the overlaid file are cropped to the page size of the original.

If the overlaid file was a group like the stamp and I could see all of it, then manoeuvring it would be simple.

Again, unless I am doing something wrong, I will use the Stamp facility so I can manoeuvre the file to get the position I require.

Once again, I appreciate the help you are giving me.

I do this a lot too - I made a couple of tools that I find help with scaling and positioning the stamp in the right location. You may find they help:

Hi Mathew, thanks for the input here. I hope that Card Trix can confirm that this issue is resolved for him - otherwise we can take another look.
