UI Consistency: Two dots ".." used instead of three dots "..." for truncated text

Post by rakunavi »

Hello all,

I would like to report a minor UI consistency issue regarding how long text is truncated across PDF-XChange Editor.

Currently, when text in document tabs, file history, or property fields exceeds the available width, it is truncated using two dots (..) instead of the standard three-dot ellipsis (...).

  • figure1.png
Interestingly, PDF-XChange Editor perfectly adheres to the Windows UX guidelines for menu items (e.g., "Open...", "Save As..."), correctly utilizing three dots. The two-dot phenomenon appears to be isolated to the automated text-truncation logic within the UI core, which may be slightly miscalculating the pixel margins.

  • figure2.png
Adopting the standard three-dot ellipsis (...) for all truncated fields would not only realign the application with standard Windows APIs and international typography but also eliminate any potential confusion with the relative path syntax (..) used in computing.

Please consider reviewing this global rendering behavior for a future update to further polish the software’s UI consistency.

Thank you for your exceptional support and dedication to creating such a high-quality product.

Best regards,
rakunavi

Hello, rakunavi

Thank you for the report, I see the same here and have passed it along.

[Edit] Just a quick note, this is intentional, and is not planned for a change at this point in time.

Kind regards,

Hello Daniel,

Thank you for taking the time to look into this.

I can truly feel the engineers' dedication to efficiency—not wanting to waste even a single pixel of screen real estate. It's fascinating to see how that philosophy shapes the UI.

I hope the software continues to evolve as a powerful tool packed with these unique, deliberate design choices. Please pass along my regards and best wishes to the development team.

Best regards,
rakunavi
