Apply a Transform to multiple objects at once

Post by SarnXero »

I have some Faxes that get sent to me squished by the document handling company. Every page is mis-sized the same amount. If I could apply the same transform to every page without having to manually select and type the transform parameters for each page, it would make this task less tedious.

Is there a way to apply a transform to multiple objects? Or perhaps just a way to copy and paste the transform? Even if I had to select each page and paste it, it would be much less tedious than typing (and having to uncheck the resize ratio) for each parameter for each page.

I did a quick search but that left me thinking it is probably not possible.

Hi,

Myself I would use the "Resize"-pages feature that you can find in the Organize-ribbon in PDF-XChange Editor.

At "Paper Size", you can set the desired page dimensions and turn on "Normalize Media Box ..."

At "Content Options", you can
- turn off "Scale page content ..." (to keep everything at the current size)
- introduce the desired Horizontal and Vertical Offset

Via the "Settings"-button, you can even save the current values and choices for re-use in the future.

Does that help ?

Kind regards.

Hi Willy - thanks for the suggestion here, that's a good approach. Let's see if it's satisfactory for OP and take it from there.

The Resize tool seems to be for resizing the page itself while increasing the contents of the page to the same size. Unfortunately that is not what I am looking for. The page size is already correct, the contents (the object/image captured as the fax) was malformed on the sender's end. I can apply a transformation to stretch it and get it to fill out the full size of the page. But It seems I would have to do it manually for each page and manually type the parameters into the transform tool to set the desired dimensions.

I was hoping there was a way to either copy that transform and paste it to each page by selecting each page's image object and clicking a hypothetical "Apply copied Transform"
or better yet, to be able to select all the pages (objects on each page) and use the transform tool once and have it apply the transform to the multiple selected objects.

You might consider using the 'Resize Pages' tool to stretch the content without maintaining the aspect ratio.

After that, you can use the 'Crop Pages' tool.

If you could include a sample PDF (containing non-confidential content), that would make it easier to find a solution.

Kind regards.

Test Squished Fax.pdf
This is how the fax appears. Assume the box is the squished Fax and my goal is to get the gray box to fill the whole page size with no white space. But the page should still be the same size.

Thanks for your test pdf.

The solution was just the opposite of what I thought:

- first use the "Crop Pages"- tool (via the Organize-ribbon > Crop)
- use the handles in the preview zone and/or the value fields Left, Right, Top, Bottom, to adjust
- click OK

- next use the "Resize"-pages tool (via the Organize-ribbon > Resize)
- select or introduce the desired page size
- make sure to un-check "Keep content aspect ratio"
- click OK

Does that help ?

Kind regards.

That worked! I got the output I was looking for.

Here is something odd tho. When I upload the PDF to my EHR, for whatever reason the top of the page gets shifted down by about an inch leaving an inch of white space at the top and cutting an inch off the bottom. So weird. No idea why it is doing that. This EHR is so weird sometimes. I honestly dont think this is an issue with PDF xchange tho.

Your solution did exactly what I was looking to do

:-)

Maybe the "Normalize Media Box" was not checked?

I figured it out. The EHR was doin something funky because the Object (image) that is the fax was stretched beyond the page view. Even tho the crop was done, it didnt remove cropped area of the image. So when you clicked the image with Edit Object you could see the box was larger then the page after the above procedure. While this looks right and prints fine, the EHR didnt like it. It tried to center the long image in the page or something like that.

So after Crop and Resize one needs to also hit the dropw down on Crop on the Organize Ribbon and Remove Cropped Content.

Now everything is the same size and no more white space!

Once again, thanks for your help.

Good to know that you figured it out.

In my print screen the "Remove ..." check-boxes were marked, but maybe you did not make attention to it, or it must be that they do not work? Can you confirm that ?

Kind regards.

Ahhh yes! Correct. I did not have the Remove options selected. I suppose that would do the same thing. Good catch!
