Text Box Character Fill Color - White Changes to None

Post by SpaghettiBrain »

Hello,

I've run into a weird little bug with the Character Fill Color option for Text Boxes.

I have a Text Box that itself is filled with a dark solid color (in this scenario, black) which means I have to change the Character Fill Color to something lighter so the text is visible. Changing the color to anything other than white displays fine. As soon as I change the Character Fill Color to white (RGB 255,255,255) and click off of the text box, it automatically changes the Fill Color to none. Interestingly, I set the RGB values to 255,255,254 and the text remained visible. It seems if set to white it assumes I don't want the characters filled at all...

OS Version: Windows 11, version 25H2
Software Version: PDF-XChange Editor Plus 11.0.1.0

For troubleshooting, I have fully rebooted my computer and created a brand new document in case it was document corruption of some sort.

I hope someone else has experienced this and can prove I'm not going insane! Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hello spaghettibrain,

I was able to fully reproduce your issue on my end, so you are completely normal!. It seems the behavior has changed between build 410 and later versions, as I demonstrated with the following steps in the validation video:

  1. Double-click the text comment in the sample file to enter text editing mode.
  2. Select the entire text and change the fill color to white (RGB: 255, 255, 255).
  3. Click on the document background to deselect the comment.
  4. Double-click the text comment again to re-enter text editing mode, select the entire text, and check the fill color in the properties.

  • sample.pdf
As shown in the image, there are two differences in the behavior—the fill color in the properties and the inverted text color when selected—and I am very interested to know how much of this change was intentional.

Hoping that the above information will be of some help to you.
Thank you for your hard work on this great software.

Best regards,
rakunavi

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for getting the team onto this, it's been impacting on our users, too - do you have an approximate idea for when the next release will be? As in, are we talking days, weeks, or months?

Thank you.

Thank you for the sanity check, rakunavi, and for providing the recording/replication steps.

Thank you for the acknowledgement that this is a known issue and confirming that it will be resolved in a future update, Daniel. In the meantime, setting the font color fill to RGB 255,255,254 is an acceptable workaround as that is indistinguishable from true white.

Thanks!

Hello, SpaghettiBrain

Glad to hear that you have a temporary workaround! As for a timeline on the fix, I am sorry to say I do not have an official timeline to offer, but I would personally estimate that we are over two weeks away at minimum.
