Feature Request: Option to adjust Touch Screen Inertial Scroll Sensitivity for larger displays

Post by rakunavi »

Hello all,

I am writing to submit a feature request regarding the "Inertial Scroll" behavior when using the Hand Tool on touch screen devices.

Currently, I use the software across three different touch screen environments:

  1. 15.6-inch (1920x1080), Scaling: 100% (Lenovo Ideapad C340 15-IWL)
  2. 21.5-inch (1920x1080), Scaling: 100% (HP All-In-One 22)
  3. 18.4-inch (3840x2160), Scaling: 200% (HUION Kamvas Pro 19)
[The Problem]
I have noticed that the larger the physical screen size becomes, the weaker the inertial scrolling effect feels.

Even when I swipe with the exact same physical finger speed and distance (e.g., a 5cm swipe), the document scrolls significantly less on the 21.5-inch monitor compared to the 15.6-inch laptop.

This happens because Windows does not have a native setting to adjust touch screen inertial sensitivity based on physical display sizes. As a result, when the same resolution (like 1080p) is stretched across a larger physical area, the number of pixels moved per physical centimeter decreases.

It strongly feels as though the current inertial sensitivity was hardcoded and optimized for 12-inch class mobile devices (like Surface Pro), where a 5cm swipe covers a large percentage of the screen. On a desktop-sized monitor, that same 5cm gesture is too small relative to the screen size, causing the inertial to die out almost instantly.

[Feature Request]
To resolve this gap in user experience across different monitor sizes, could you please consider adding an advanced setting for Touch/Inertial scrolling? Specifically:

  • An option to adjust the Inertial Deceleration / Friction rate.
  • Or an option to adjust the Touch Scroll Velocity Multiplier.
Having the ability to tweak the sensitivity would make the touch experience flawless on all desktop touch monitors and large pen displays.

Thank you for taking the time to read this message.

Best regards,
rakunavi
