I have quite a few scanned books and journal articles where each pdf page (landscape mode) contains two pages of the original. After printing these out I cut each page in half, order the new pages and staple them together. Now that I have purchased an ebook reader I would like to convert my 2 book pages per landscape page scans into portrait pages containing a single book page.
Does PDF-XChange (professional or free) allow my to do the same thing digitally? I.e., transform a landscape page containing scans of two book pages into two portrait page PDFs, each containing one book page.
If so, does the program permit some way to automate the process?
Can you split one landscape mode page into 2 portrait pages

Re: Can you split one landscape mode page into 2 portrait pages
Hi,
I am afraid not - you can crop pages - but there is no way then to preserve the 'cropped' part of the page and save to a new page.
You could I supposed duplicate each page and then crop alternate dimensions to ensure you saved each required portion of the page - but it would be time consuming and we have no means to automate this.
Of course it could be done (after all just about anything in theory can be) - but it comesdown to demand and we have never been asked for such a feature before and it would need some consdierable demand to justify the time required.

Understood. Conceivably it will be in your interest to add this feature if ebook readers like the iRex iLliad, iRex Digital reader and the new crop of 8 x 11 inch e-ink readers (promised in 2009! and we know all about bleeding edge promises) take off.
If you ever need a beta tester for efforts along these lines, I'd be glad to test.

Re: Can you split one landscape mode page into 2 portrait pa
hello,
4 years later... any news? I am looking for exactly the asked feature, being able to semiautomatically split / divide / separate numerous scanned pdf-pages with each the image of 2 parallel pages into each 2 separate pdf-pages.
classicly needed, when having scanned double-pages of a book, such as

glad to read from you again.

This is really not a task for a PDF viewer to achieve. You could use PDF-XChange to OCR the text, then copy/paste the text into a word-processor or DTP application to produce a new PDF or an e-book. An e-book composed entirely of images would be much larger than necessary, and not ideal for text clarity.
IrfanView could be used to split the scans into single pages, using a couple of batch jobs. Then it can recombine the single pages into a PDF.
How would I batch resize images while splitting double pages?

The only way I can imagine currently and in the near future we could help you acheive this is for you to copy the file and then combine 2 versions of the file into 1 - then crop all the pages so you end up with 1 cropped copy of each page represented in the file ...
