PDF-XChange PDF Shell Extensions 2.0.40.7 does not update

I'm using PDF-XChange PDF Pro Version 2.0 (Build 40.7).

PDF-XChange PDF Shell Extensions 2.0.40.7 does not update properly. Every time I go through the update procedure, I get a window saying the update was successful (over half a dozen times so far). However, when I go through Help -> Check for Updates ..., I still see this is not updated.

I reported this problem for 2.0.40.5 as well. I was told this is a problem with Live Updates and would be fixed in the next release?

Yes, I'm having the same issue here with the lastest version of Pro 2.0.

The shell extensions simply don't work in that I have icons rather than thumbnails for my pdfs. This problem only came along when I updated Viewer after installing the Pro (and paid) version.

Any eta on the next release?

The shell extension works fine — only the update is not working as it should.

Make sure you have enabled Thumbnail View in Windows Explorer.

That's good news (I hope). Can you point me to this? I don't seem to find it. In Folders Options (in Vista) 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' is already unchecked.

Then why do you expect to see thumbnails? I'm not using Vista, but I doubt this has changed that much. Select show thumbnails, not icons. Otherwise, there is no point using the Shell Extension at all if you don't need it.

My apologies for any confusion. Of course, you are right, but I think you have misread my reply. The box is already unchecked, and has been in the past. This would leave the system free to show thumbnails. On the other hand if the box was checked, it would never show thumbnails, but only icons.

I'm afraid I still have the issue of my original post in that the shell extensions always show up as not installed through update even after installation (and a reboot). Also they only show icons rather than the thumbnails I orginally had with the shell extensions and the previous build of the free Viewer.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks for you time.

My mistake, not yours.

I can only suggest that it is problem with permissions. Log in as Administrator before installing the Shell Extension.

No difference, I'm afraid. And I'm already the only admin on this system. Hopefully, Support will come forward and guide me.

It seems we are talking about two problems. I’m having both. First the updates for PDF shell extensions 2.0.40.7 are not updating properly they appear to install but it does not remove them the update list. Second I do not get the thumbnails as a user only as an administrator. I’m running Vista x64 with all updates installed.

I have this same problem, it insists on updating the same shell extensions everytime I check for new updates.

As stated on several occassions - we know about this and it is fixed in the next release which is likely to be available towards the end of this month
