Inconsistent problems viewing PDF's in Internet Explorer

Post by ksudavid »

We run several PDF reports in Oracle. When you view the report from Oracle it opens the PDF in an Internet Explorer window. There are 3 of us using PDF Exchange and 2 of us have problems viewing the reports out of Oracle.

Computer #1: PDF Xchange is the default viewer but any PDF opened in IE still uses Adobe reader. Oracle reports open just fine. Inside the Xchange preferences the box "Display in Browser" is greyed out and cannot be checked.

Computer #2: PDF Xchange is the default viewer and when you try to open the PDF report via Oracle you get a "Document Is Broken" message. Only solution thus far has been to make Adobe Reader the default viewer. On this computer the Xchange preferences has the "Display in Browser" option checked and not greyed out. I thought unchecking this would fix the problem but it doesn't seem to work thus far.

Any ideas

Firstly, please check if you have latest (40.7) build of the viewer.
Computer #1: PDF Xchange is the default viewer but any PDF opened in IE still uses Adobe reader. Oracle reports open just fine. Inside the XChange preferences the box "Display in Browser" is greyed out and cannot be checked.
This check box is disabled when there are no browser's plugins. Plugins files are:
1. PDFXCviewIEPlugin.dll -- plugin for IE
2. npPDFXCviewNPPlugin.dll -- plugin for Mozilla (also works with Opera, Safari).
3. PDFXCviewAx.dll -- viewer's ActiveX control used by plugins.

To allow these plugins to operate normally please take the following steps:
1. Register viewer: PDFXCview.exe /RegServer
2. Register ActiveX: regsvr32 PDFXCviewAx.dll
3. Register IE-plugin: regsvr32 PDFXCviewIEPlugin.dll

Normally, all these operations are done during viewer installation, but it is possible on occassions this may not complete as required in some circumstances.

Sounds good but I don't want to make those changes to Computer #1 until I figure out the problem on #2. If I make your changes then computer #1 could have the same problems as #2 and I will have to make Adobe my default reader.
