I received a PDF (1.6) that, when opened, displays the following message:
Warning: This form is not supported with the current version of Acrobat or Adobe Reader
Upgrade to the latest version for full support.
The contents of the PDF are apparently inaccessible using PDF-Xchange (current build, 41.3). FYI, Foxit cannot open it either.
Curiously, an older version of Adobe Acrobat, 7.1, opened and displayed the file without complaint.
I don't know what program created this file.
Is it possible Adobe is engineering some scheme to disable 3rd party viewers?

Without file I cannot say exact which unsupported features used, but looks like XFA and PDF collections.

I got such files.
Here is an example.
It's in German.
Roughly translated:
"For this PDF a newer Adobe Reader version is needed. Although the form will be displayed correctly, some functions are not functioning properly or not available. To perform an online update click ok...."

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Yes, the reason is XFA forms. We are planning to add support of them into build 42 of the viewer.
P.S. Message shown when you open the document, is provided by built-in JavaScript, which checks if XFA supported, and shows this message if it is not.
