Group Policy - Permissions Issue after installation

Post by steve714 »

Hi,

I successfully deployed PDF-Xchange Viewer v2.0 build 41.5 and have encountered a permissions issue (machines are locked down) that I cant seem to resolve. When started the PDF-Change Viewer, the prompt "Do you wish to allow your Browser to display PDF files - using the application?", the user can select a check box so that they are not prompted in the future. If the box is selected and then the "yes" options is applied, the user is prompted with the options "Which user account do you want to use to run this program?". Of course I could use the Administrator credentials which resolves the issue but it will not accept the current users credentials. The program then opens.

I am assuming that the user needs permissions to write to a specific Registry Key but im unable to figure out which key or any other work around to the issue.

Any help or idea would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Viewer shows "Run as" dialog when it needs to write into HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT registry to make associations with .pdf files and/or turn on or off "Display in browsers" feature.
This dialog is shown when current user has no Administrator permissions.
We are working on reducing such situations, but trouble is because each version of Windows has its own mechanism for associations, and there are no common API.

I would be ok giving the end user control over those options so ill have to play with the registry permissions on those keys. By default .PDF associations are set to read only for non-admins. Im sure the same would apply to the other.

Thank you for the information.
