program invisible on harddisk
Why can't I find PDF-XChange on my harddisk? Not in Explorer, nor in Programs and features (software) from Control Panel (I use Windows 7). PDF-XChange viewer itself seems to run ok.

Re: program invisible on harddisk
are you looking for the location of the executable? Does Windoes 7 user C:\Program Files like XP and Vista? Is it not there?
Like in XP it's in "C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF-XChange Viewer\pdf-viewer\PDFXCview.exe" and all the icons are just symlinks to that.

Thanks for your reply, but your suggestion isnt right.
I even did a search of the complete computer on Tracker, XChange, PDF-XChange, but except for hundreds of pdf files of the Type PDF-XChange the programfile or -folder did not appear.

You may simply run Process Explorer (download free from here), open pdf file and see location from where PDFXCview.exe is running.

This is the location:
C:\Users\Paul FWD\AppData\Local\Temp\wz3326\PDFV_Portable\PDFXCview.exe
If there's an easy explanation why pdf-xchange is not in the Program files folder but this one, please let me know.
If not, thanks for your tip for this handy program.

Re: program invisible on harddisk
If you download portable version and extract it from the zip file to your local system to your required specified folder it will exist there
The Portable version doesn't create records into a Program group, registry, or anywhere (except the temp folder for some temp data when you are viewing pdf files).
Just move it into any folder you want and continue to use it.
Thats the purpose of the portable version - its totally independant of the usual install requirements and therefore can be placed on a USB drive/memory stick etc and moved from machine to machine etc with you.
Hope that helps
