Marketing suggestion

Post by paul1149 »

Hi,

I just came from a site that offered a .pdf file download. Right next to it was this blurb:

To download the courses, you must have Adobe Reader installed on your computer. If you need Adobe Reader, just click on the logo and follow the instructions to download the free program.

And then there was the Adobe Reader button. Of course they meant "view" instead of "download", but the point is that XChange should make code available for webmasters so that people will start to download its viewer instead of Adobe's. It could say something like,

To view this file you will require a .pdf reader on your computer. For the best way to read and annotate .pdf files we recommend the free PDF-XChange viewer . Click on the button below to go to the download site.

Why let referral business go to Adobe by default? My apologies if this is already done. I looked around and did not see any such code available.

be blessed,
p.

This is a good suggestion. I have replaced the Adobe logo with the PDF-XChange logo throughout my site, wherever I offer a PDF file for my visitors. Opera run an Affiliates program for web masters. At least it would be easy to make a few custom buttons available to get PDF-XChange Viewer.

Putting together the code isn't an issue - getting it widely used is another matter. Adobe get this because of their history with PDF. I get annoyed especially at government and other publicly funded sites as they are promoting Adobe with my taxes!

Bhikkhu - I'm not clear, are you suggesting an affiliate style fee be paid by Tracker? Not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, just want to know what you are thinking. :)
Best regards
