Images loading slowly
I have an issue where some images are taking a long time to show in the Xchange Viewer. Bad enough that I finally give up waiting and open the doc in Adobe Reader instead. Is there a setting somewhere that can help with this issue?
I'm on build 41.5
Thanks,
David

Re: Images loading slowly
I only ever noticed this behaviour is ridiculously large images, and Adobe Reader was worse.
There is nothing anyone can do without a PDF file to test that shows this behaviour. Send to support via Help, report a problem, or post a link to a problem file. I presume that it it too big to attach here.

The PDF file itself is only 1MB. I've attached an example in zip format.

Hi - Opens very quickly here.
Please make sure you have a recent build :
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/downloads/users/
If you still have a problem - please use the option 'Help -> Report a Problem' in the Viewer - which will provide details of you system as there may be something specific to your install which is causing an issue and we can then advise specifically what is required.

Re: Images loading slowly
It opens very slowly for me too. It opens like a 10g graphic file, but it's only 1MB.
This is the only file that has opened slowly for me in my two months of using the Viewer. Also, it took the viewer about 3 minutes to extract the file to tiff format. It's acting as if the file size is huge, but the extraction was only 1.7mb

Ok - thanks will investigate more using this file and different PC configs etc

Just so you'll know, Im using build 41.4 on XP Pro, SP3. No AV or resident software running that should have any effect.Tracker Support wrote:Ok - thanks will investigate more using this file and different PC configs etc

Re: Images loading slowly
I see slow performance too — it takes 5-10 seconds to redraw on zooming in/out.
The images are very big — 6411 x 4176 Pixels (26.77 MPixels). I opened the PDF in PagePlus X3 to look at it. The paper size is Taboloid = 17" x 11" landscape and the images are placed at 584 dpi. If placed at their native resolution of 96 dpi they would need a sheet size of 2m x 1.5m
Publishing the PDF at a more reasonable 300 dpi instead of nearly 600 dpi results in the attached file — half the size, and now it is no problem at all to view. Now it is Adobe Reader that is slower to redraw it.
The PDF producer is Ghostscript. If you have any control over the production of these files, I suggest 300 dpi would be sufficient.
Anyway, I hope that Tracker can improve performance for drawing large images without any trade off for other files.

Re: Images loading slowly
I used PDFCreator to create the document. I tried again and in the Advanced setting I reduced the DPI from 600 to 300. This definetly helps. Still slow but not to the point I give up waiting and switch to Adobe.
Thanks for the help.
David

Re: Images loading slowly
Will check why it is so slow.
Also, please try to change color management Engine to "Microsoft ICM" into viewer preferences.

Re: Images loading slowly
I tried it on Vista 64 and it takes about 5sec to load. Changing to MIcrosoft ICM made no difference for me.
