Hi,
I want to convert a MS Word document to a pdf file using PDF-Xchange. There are several EPS images in that document. After the conversion, images are not vectorial in the output file and fonts are not well displayed. Letters with curves are more like polygons than circles and the text included in the images cannot be selected. I didn't have this problem with Adobe Acrobat or even CutePDF, regardless of the type of document (Word, Powerpoint, etc.)
Thanks
J-F

Hi j-f,
can you tell us what version of PDF-XChange you are using and if you used the Office2pdf addin or File -> Print to generate the pdf document.

Re: Conversion of a document with an EPS image to a PDF file
Hi,
I have PDF Xchange 4.0. The problem is the same using both methods, i.e. Office2pdf and File -> Print. I just want to correct what I wrote in the last post : the image IS vectorial but fonts aren't well displayed. I used different fonts such as Time New Roman, Arial, Helvetica, etc. and all curved numbers or letters aren't smooth. I attached an example in which fonts numbers are not clear.
Thanks
J-F

Thanks J-F,
I get the unclear fonts as well. Have you tried embedding the fonts in the PDF from the Print driver Printing Preferences go to Fonts -> Embed all fonts used and let me know how that goes. To be honest I expected those fonts you mentioned to not need embedidng as they are common Windows fonts. I've asked our resident 'font specialist' to take a look. He's in Europe so you won't likely hear from him until tomorrow.

Re: Conversion of a document with an EPS image to a PDF file
The 3 Fonts specifically mentioned are all default fonts embedded in the PDF format and therefore do not need embedding.
Could you please take a screen shot of what you see and zip/post as to me all looks good - but perhaps I am missing something ...

Re: Conversion of a document with an EPS image to a PDF file
I tried the option Fonts -> Embed all fonts used and it doesn't work either. I tried several combinations of options in the "Font" thumbnail before writing my first post. FYI, I attached a new file so you can compare the results with Xchange and Adobe. One of my colleagues who has Adobe Acrobat converted it for me. Just go from one to the other, you'll see the difference.
Thanks

Here is the doc file and the figure in eps format. The figure was generated with Matlab.
Please let me know if you need further info.

Re: Conversion of a document with an EPS image to a PDF file
I'm afraid EPS can only be printed using fonts on PS printers. PDF-XChange isn't PostScript printer and GDI converts everything into curves during printing.
