Is there a possibility to get this "non-edit behaviour" without constatly having to press the shift-key? Would be great eg for presentations.- Added - ability to add one markup over an existing one using Shift key. (3949)

Hey pen,
I think that it's better the way it is now - the default action to be to select the current markup (the more frequently used action) and only the alternative (with Shift) to be to start a new one. Yes in your case you need the alternative functionality more but we are trying to make everyone happy
And for the pen tool especially if you are not exactly over another pencil line it will start drawing a new one and there is no problem for them to cross and overlap
