Huge Sticky Notes

Post by Skeletal »

Hi

My problem is that, a long time ago (i.e. years!) something changed to Xchange viewer (or my system!). Sticky notes used to be a sensible size relative to a document, they are now absolutely huge. Their size is about one third the size of the page I am viewing (when viewing normally). Their size remains static as I zoom in and out of the document, so, although normal viewing is the approx third size, zooming out will make the Note bigger than the document (but I do scan documents at this level of zoom)!

I cannot see any way of reducing the size of the note (many other features can be changed, but not the size, I think). I cannot see how to make the note change size during zooming.

Over the past years, and over several Xchange viewer updates, I check, but no longer use, the Note feature because of this. But a chance discussion in another forum suggests that something strange may be happening, which, if I could sort out, may make the Notes work again for me.

Any thoughts, or is the Notes feature supposed to do this?

I’m currently using Windows XP Media Centre Edition SP3;
Pentium dual core processor;
2GB RAM;
Nvidia 8800GTX;
Widescreen monitor 1680 x 1050

Can you let us know which version of the Viewer you are using: Help->About.

As well can you attach a screenshot of the problem and zip it and attach it to this post.

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks for replying Chris.

As per my post, the problem has been around for some time, but the version I’m now using is Version 2 Build 41.5.

Hopefully you will see a picture of the “third of a page” size…

Try downloading the latest version, 4.2 but there should be a resolution difference.

It's gotta be in you system settings somewhere, because I am using 4.2 of the viewer and I tried both in 1400x900 and 1600x1200 and the sticky notes are quite small and acceptable. not like yours at all.

Do you have an accessibility options on for the visually impaired or maybe a screen dpi or resolution setting? Kinda stumped as I cannot reproduce that as of yet.

I'll seeif I can make it do that with the program settings? I attached screenshots in different resolutions to ensure you how it should look.

Actually Skeletal,

If you can use the report a problem function in the help menu it will send an email with extended information required by the development team to try and figure that out. And do try unistalling your current version, reboot, download the latest version 4.2 and install it, first. If it still occurs in the new version then use the report a problem function.

I tried to increase the font in the sticky but it only increased the notes content text size not the sticky note's details at the top of the note.

Sorry I can't recreate it or solve it.

Regards,
Chris

Just set reasonable DPI of you screen into viewer's preferences on Page Display page (standard DPI is 96 for desktops and about 110 for notebooks).

OK Chris

Thanks for trying. As far as I know, I don’t have any “odd” settings, but we all know computers will do odd things to keep us on our toes!

I will try looking through them all/try different screen resolutions etc etc.

And completely uninstalling and trying again (I really can’t remember, over the time I have had this problem, whether I have done complete uninstalls/installs, or just installed the new over the old. Perhaps there is an old registry setting upsetting something).

And the report a problem function.

At least I now know that it not supposed to be doing what it does!

And if you can’t reproduce the fault, it makes it a bit difficult to solve!

Thanks again for your help.

Sorry Ivan…missed your post.

My display is set to 96 DPI, but I have just tried it at 120. This had no noticeable affect to the problem, but desktop icons etc etc became larger (as expected).

I also tried a few different screen resolutions and the problem remains the same (at 600 x 800 the Note size completely covers the document, again not that surprising!).

I’ll try the other suggestions later.

Thanks both.

Sorry, you need to change dpi settings not into Windows, but into the viewer.
Please open viewer's preferences (Edit -> Preferences, or press Ctrl+K) go to the "Page Display" page, and set "Use Resolution" option to "Automatic: XX" value (XX will be you OS dpi setting value).
Now your notes will look as they should.

Doh!!!!! In my best Homer voice.

That’s it!

It was set to 300dpi.

I actually didn’t know that preferences section was there (OK, another Doh!).

As ever, easy when you know how.

Thanks for all the help guys.
