Invalid or missing path in firefox

Post by krsopp »

I receive the following error when attempting to open SOME PDF files from websites:

Error opening document
“C:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\appdata\local\mozilla\firefox\profiles\cfhh730v.default\cache\6A2FD73d01”:error [Operating System]: The system cannot find the path specified.

I have successfully opened one or two files from websites but it seems that the majority give me this cache location error. I have checked display PDF in browser and have made PDF-XChange Viewer the default and uninstalled all other PDF viewers.

Sorry, the OS is Vista Home Premium, SP-2; Dell Core 2 Duo 64-bit 4GB ram; Firefox V3.5; PDF-XChange Viewer V2.0 Build 42 beta.

Can you try to change your firefox cache directory and report us if problem still exists?
To change cache directory in FF 3.5 you should go to "about:config" (just type it in address bar (without quotes), like web site and press Enter). Then click on "I'll be careful, I promise" button. Right click on the list of preferences -> New -> String. In the first dialog box insert "browser.cache.disk.parent_directory" string (without quotes) in the second dialog type new path to some other folder for FF cache files.

I think I have found the problem. My ‘firefox’ directory lives in:
C:\windows\sysWOW64\config\systemprofile\appdata\local\mozilla\firefox\profiles\cfhh730v.default\cache\...

It appears that the 'viewer' is looking for a 32bit file version and I am running 64bit. Is there a 64bit version of 'viewer', did I install an incorrect version?

From previous test suggestion, in about:config I added new browser cache parent as: c:\firefox\testcache

After the appropriate reboot the PDF file from the web loaded perfectly.

Thank you,
Keith

if you setup the viewer using .exe installer it automatically install x64 version of the viewer on x64 OS.
Do you have 32bits FireFox or 64-bits?

It appears that I need to get all my 'bits' in sync... I am apparently running 32 bit firefox and that may be because all the add-ons were not functional when I installed V3.5. I need to check that out. Then I'll verify the version of viewer also.

Thanks,

The issue seems to be working with the new directory information. However, I am now having a problem creating a PDF file. I have searched my emails and other files on my computer this evening and I can not confirm that I purchased a docu-track product to create PDF files from Office products. I currently have PDF-XChange, PDF-XChange 4 and PDF-XChange Lite 4 versions on my computer.

Is it possible to find out if I indeed purchased a PDF - XChange software.

Thank you,
Keith

Hi krsopp,

Email me at support@pdf-xchange.com, with the email address you would have used for the purchase and the serial number you used in your viewer.

WARNING: PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR SERIAL HERE OR IT WILL BE DEACTIVATED.

Not yelling, warning label : )

Regards,
Chris
