several features request
Pdf-xchange viewer is my favorite pdf viewer. It is a great software, but it is not perfect and I have to use other pdf editor (DocuCom PDF Gold, free for 30 days trial) to view or comment pdfs sometime. The follow is what I think pdf-xchange viewer should be enhanced:
1. Fit visible
Adobe reader have had this feature for a long time, but pdf-xchange viewer does not support it. In the viewer, the feature is bound to key ctrl+3,which fails to work. I think it is not difficult to implement it, as there is a similar feature, remove white spaces in crop pages dialogue box, which is not free to use. And if the feature is adopted to simulate fit visiable, it requires the pdf should not be saved, which means that the pdf should only be viewed.
2. Other comment tools
Many pdf editors supply five methods to comment: highlight, cross out, underline, add, and replace, while pdf-xchange viewer only supply the first three. I hope the last two methods will be added if it is possible.
3. the speed of mouse wheel scroll
Is it possible to scroll serveral lines other than one line, when mouse wheel up or down? If so we can view the pdf file only use mouse, without the help of keybord to page up/down.
4. Quickly switch between hand tool and select tool
It is very inconvenient to do that by default. I have to bind keys with them. It would be very useful, especially on fullscreen mode, if the two are added to the right popup context menu.
5. Hide horizontal scrollbar
The horizontal scrollbar is always shown by default. Could it be hided when it is useless?
6. Option not show text on toolbar
Text take up too much space. If it could be hide, it is a good new to those who have small screens.
7. Merge toolbar
There is two types of toolbar, which can not be merge, and always take up two line space.
I hope the viewer will be better, and oneday it would be the only viewer on my machine.

Re: several features request
Hello curclew,
First thank you for the time you spent making those comments and helping us improve our software.
Now I will try to answer about each of the requests/suggestions below.
1. Fit visible - Ctrl + 3 is working for me. Can you make sure you are using the latest build of the viewer.
2. Other Comment tools - We are currently working on the last two features you mentioned and when we are ready would be glad to present them to everyone.
3. The Mouse scrolling speed is based on your mouse driver settings in Window. Mine is scrolling 3 lines at a time and you can make it as much as you like. (The mouse settings are in Control Panel -> Mouse in XP and in Vista should be in a similar place)
4. As you can bind whatever key/keycombination to almost any command in the viewer you can do that switching verry fast (and you only need to bind those keys once so it's not that burdening I think, and also gives you mobility to fine tune to your prefferences). As for adding them to the context menu, it should be discussed in the Project Management and if there is a decision to do it we will let you (and everyone else) know.
5. For the moment no it's not possible to hide the horizontal toolbar. But this option is also under consideration. When we have any news we will let you know
6. You can hide the toolbars you do not need, and could you clarify which texts you mean? As despite the main menu I can not think of any bulky texts.
7. You can also create custom toolbars. Yes the properties toolbar is a separate one but it has to be, as it changes with the currently selected tool, so I do not see a way it to be "merged" with other toolbars.
Best Regards,
Stefan

Re: several features request
As with all programs, if you zoom down to a scale that makes the entire length of a page fit in the window, the fonts are small and not easy to read. This is in part because the number of toolbar rows used by default takes away valuable vertical space on screen.
While it's true that you can turn off toolbars, an excellent approach to the problem would be if you could have the toolbars dock on the side of the window (e.g. the right side) instead of the top. Most documents are vertically challenged for display space, but have lots of horizontal space to spare.

Re: several features request
I am very glad to receive the reply from site administrator. I would like to explain some of my requests more clearly.
1. fit visible
I tried the newest portable version and the hot key ctrl+3 is still not working.
There are three types of view in the viewer: Actual size, fit page and fit width. And adobe reader afford the fourth type, fit visible, a mode in which the whitespace of a pdf would be removed. The viewer doesn't support this feature, and you could not find it in the main menu of view.
However, when you customize the hot keys of commands, you would find that ctrl+3 is binded to "fit visible".
3. The Mouse scrolling speed
I would like to change the setting of the viewer but the default behaviour of the system, as the latter requires administrator privilege.
Two window messages may be helpful, WM_VSCROLL(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms912690.aspx) or WM_MOUSEWHEEL(the value of zDelta, http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library ... S.85).aspx).
Please consider it again.
6. Option not show text on toolbar
There are several buttons followed by text: "Open" button with "Open...", "Typewriter tool" button with "Typewriter", "zoom toolbar" with "Zoom in" or "Zoom out" or "Loope Tool".
These buttons are too wide and if they are put on the left side of the viewer, they will waste losts of space.
7. Merge toolbar
I tried to put the "Zoom Toolbar" and "Pages Navigation Toolbar" in the same line but failed as they always take up too lines.
All I want is to make the buttons take up less space.
Maybe it is a good choice for the viewer to hide the buttons by default and when mouse move to the edge, they are auto showed.

While customising the toolbars, right-click on the buttons and uncheck "show text."curclew wrote:There are several buttons followed by text: "Open" button with "Open...", "Typewriter tool" button with "Typewriter", "zoom toolbar" with "Zoom in" or "Zoom out" or "Loope Tool". Re: several features request
In my experience with programs that allow toolbars to be docked on the side, such as the Microsoft compiler, the buttons become completely vertical, so what you describe shouldn't be an issue. Regardless, I'm looking at a document that I must vertically scroll to see a third of it's text and there is lots of unused space on the right side of the window. Dock the toolbars vertically on the right and lots of vertical space becomes available. The "auto hide" that someone else suggested could also be interesting, except that it would be a real nuisance if you move the cursor near the top to add a comment and suddenly a toolbar covers up that text.curclew wrote: 6. Re: several features request
Thank you all for the interest and activity in the topic.
Auto Hide for toolbars have been discussed and decided not to be implemented, we offer Full screen mode (F12) and hiding all toolbars with one key so we decided the autohide would be more of a nuisance than helper.
As Spam message posted by BOT engine - ignore - to be deleted by admin said you can rearrange all toolbars and move them to either side of your screen (just drag and drop them around
)
About Ctrl + 3 .. ooops just realized I am only using Ctrl + 0,1,2 and Ctrl +3 is really assigned to Fit Visible in the "customize toolbars" menu. so I will chase this and point it to the development team
Bhikkhu already answered about the texts in custom toolbars so is there anything left uncovered?
Cheers,
Stefan

Re: several features request
I just checked out the feature for using F11 to hide the toolbars (which I hadn't noticed) and the ability to dock toolbars on the left and hide the text on buttons to make them smaller. All I can say is, "job well done."

Re: several features request
Hi, I love PDF-XChange Viewer, just one thing bother me: why i see the horizontal scroll-bar when is disabled? Stefan (moderator) on Jul 27, 2009: "For the moment no it's not possible to hide the horizontal toolbar. But this option is also under consideration. When we have any news we will let you know". Cmon, that was almost 3 years ago, it's still under consideration or just forgot it? I did not even ask the default behavior but an option does not harm anyone
Thanks for you time.

Re: several features request
Hello yusniel,
Apologies for this "delay" but the intention to implement this in a future build we've expressed earlier might have not been clarified well. We are considering this as an option/feature for v3 of the Viewer and not in something we were going to add in v2. So lets see what the initial build of v3 will bring by the end of this month:
https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/ ... 35&t=10100
And we can take it from there on after that.
Best,
Stefan

Re: several features request
I think the software is great! However there are two features which I wish were present:
1) Scale to known dimension; if you know a dimension, you should be able to click one point and click the other, then manually enter the correct dimension. The software should then calculate the true scale of the drawing.
2) I open lots of drawing files at once; it would be good to be able to highlight the drawing tabs different colours, this would enable you to see at a glance which group of drawings you are looking at.

Re: several features request
Hello PJKillelea,
Thanks for your suggestions.
We are already considering 1), and 2) won't be that necessary once v3 is released - as you will then be able to easily split the view - and have the separate drawings still loaded in the same instance of the Viewer, but grouped in separate clusters.
Best,
Stefan
