Hello. My boss has the habit of embedded files in the MS Word documents (.doc) (I hate it!)
He regularly inserts Adobe generated PDF, and the fact is that I can not open them if Acrobat is not installed in the computer (as it happens in _my_ computer)... (even worse, I am not able to save them (?))
Well... enyone knows if it is possible to configure MS Word in order to open that PDF OLE objects with our favorite PDF viewer? (or, at least, some one knows how to extract those embedded objects and save them as regular pdf files)
Thanks and regards!
Josep

Re: Adobe pdf embedded in MS Word problem
Hello Jmarro,
Here is what I dug out from MS Word's help:
Convert an embedded object to a file of another source program
Select the embedded object (embedded object: Information (object) contained in a source file and inserted into a destination file. Once embedded, the object becomes part of the destination file. Changes you make to the embedded object are reflected in the destination file.) you want to edit.
On the Edit menu, point to object name Object (for example, Worksheet Object), and then click Convert.
Do one of the following:
If you want to convert the embedded object to the type you specified in the Object type box, click Convert to.
It you want to open the embedded object as the type you specified in the Object type box without changing the embedded object type, click Activate as.
Please tell us if this is helpful.
As for how to make Word display those objects using our Viewer, I will try to check if this is possible a bit later.
Regards,
Stefan

Re: Adobe pdf embedded in MS Word problem
Hi jmarro
my understanding of things is that we are talking about an adobe created addin for MS Word. As such, and if this is true in your case, I believe they specify the call to their viewer rather than let the system default take precedence. In order for PDF-XChange Viewer to be associated with this it would have to intercept the call made by the addin. At this point we are not even sure if this is practical. We are however investigating the issue, though I should note that this is not the highest priority project on an already very busy dev team.
