I downloaded and installed PDF Exchange Viewer from tracker-software.com. Each time I try to open a PDF document, it is displayed on screen for a few seconds before I get a message telling me that the viewer has experienced a problem and needs to close.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing. I've tried uninstalling, deleting the downoaded file, re-downloading and installing again but I always get the same problem. I have installed this on my laptop without any issues so I am wondering if there is some problem with my PC, but they are both running mostly the same programs (the laptop has more programs installed and there is nothing on the PC that isn't installed on the laptop too) so I'm not sure how likely it is that there is a conflict with another installed program.
Anyone have any ideas?
Exchange Viewer will not work.

Re: Exchange Viewer will not work.
Hey GlenAffric,
All our software is tested extensively before release and the latest version is almost a month old and there have not been much complaints about it's stability so it is most probably specific to that machine rather than our software. Also there should be no incompatibilities with other applications as our software is all written inhouse, and we have the best dev team, and we are proud with them.
Localizing a problem and deciding if it is software or hardware related can be quite time consuming, and I am sorry I can not give you any specific advice but there is just something wrong with that PC and there is not much we can do in this case

Re: Exchange Viewer will not work.
Thanks for the replies.
Nope, no luck so far. I was also under the impression that it might be something wrong with my PC but thought I'd check first to see if:
a) there was a genuine viewer issue experienced by others
b) anyone had any idea where I might start looking for this if it was a conflict of some sort
I have definitely got something installed on my PC which shouldn't be there and I'm trying to find out how to get rid of it. It is only noticable when I have Firefox running and it is opening new windows every so often with crap like Spam message posted by BOT engine - ignore - to be deleted by admin sites, gambling sites and so on. I'm not sure that this has anything to do with it but this is what I'm trying to sort at the moment as it's a real annoyance.
If I get it sorted, I'll post a note with what seemed to be the problem.
Cheers,
GlenAffric

Hi again GlenAffric,
it sounds to me like malware. Of course not having seen your symptoms this is not a diagnosis but I would suggest you do a scan. Vista or XP? Vista has built in malware detection or for XP you could try one like SpyBot Search And Destroy. http://www.safer-networking.org/

Thanks Paul,
I downloaded and installed a trial version of AVG 8.5 today thinking it might come up with the culprit but so far I'm still having this problem. Do you think Spybot will be more likely to be successful?

I believe AVG is more oriented towards avtivirus than other malware. I'd definitely give SpyBot a go. I don't want to send you on a wild goose chase here though. If SpyBot catches nothing I'd call your system clean and start looking elsewhere for the root of the problem.

Hi Glenn,
Well, Spybot is more geared towards malware, as AVG is virii, so I would suggest using a few tools to ensure the sanctity of your machine. I don't know if Lavasoft still offers a free version of Adaware but they have a good product as well.
Also a good free online scanner, one of my favorites when fully infested is TrendMicro's HouseCall
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/
It takes a while sometimes but is very thorough and covers a wide gamet of security vulnerabilities. Including malware. And protects against reinfection.
HTH,
Chris

Paul is right. Antivirus software is overmatched against the sophisticated malware. Rarely, unless you are a very advanced user will you be able to rid yourself of malware without some guidance. Go here: http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Malware- ... t2852.html.GlenAffric wrote:Thanks Paul,

Follow the guide on that page.. You will be running useful applications that will get you on the road to recovery. It may take a few days to get a response and active help, but they will eventually assign a helper for you who will read and analyze the system logs that you will be making. Then, you will be given specific instructions how to cure your system.
When you are clean, visit sandboxie.com... or look into Returnil, or both. They both have free versions. I'm a big advocate of Sandboxie, and thus, a registered user. It's the best investment you'll ever make for your home computers.
