3 Wish List

Post by icenoodle »

1:
When PDF-XChange Viewer is close, and then user open a pdf file. PDF-XChange Viewer would load the file only, the option "Restore the last Used view of document ...." can not work,

2:
Add a option, let user can restrict the tab length in a range, like 50~100 pixel.

3:
Add a option, Let user can choose the location of tab bar is top or bottom.

Thanks.

Vasyl, Regarding 1.

I think that icenoodle is loading a PDF from Windows Explorer or from an email attachment. Its nothing to do with the PDF file itself.

To load the last session, one must launch the Viewer from its shortcut, which makes sense. I don't think I would want it to load the last session as well if loading single or multiple PDF files by other routes.

Bhikkhu Pesala describe exactly that I want to say, thanks. About the behaviour of the restore function, there is a compromise way.

Some web browsers like firefox(with TMP) or maxthon have the restore function too, if user enable the "restore the last ..." function, after program was actived , program will pop up a dialog , ask user want load the last tabs or not, no matter program was actived by its shortcut or loading file from Windows Explorer or other way, except the program was active by its shortcut and there is not any tab when the program was closed last time.

In "firefox" case, if firefox was actived by web shortcut file or a html file in Windows Explorer, firefox will deal the file firstly, then pop up the dialog secondly. In "maxthon" case, maxthon will pop up the dialog firstly, then deal the file secondly.

The attach file is the screen captured picture of firefox(with TMP) and maxthon.

Do we need this?

If I run the viewer from its shortcut it remembers my last session. If I open a PDF from the web or from my hard disk by dragging it into my browser it opens in the browser plugin. The saved session is not changed by doing this.

If I want to open another file as well as my saved session, I first launch the viewer from the shortcut, then use the launch toolbar in the browser plugin to open the file in the standalone viewer, which adds it to the session. Otherwise, I can drag a PDF file on my hard drive from Windows Explorer into the already open standalone viewer.

Tracker love adding features, but I'm wary of creeping sophistication. Too many options to choose from makes the application harder to use, and harder to support.

Bhikkhu makes a good point and we are equally concerned about 'feature bloat' - we do need to ensure that we are adding only broadly desired and usable features - otherwise we are in danger of just overwhelming the user and the UI with 'clutter' of dubious value.

At some point we may even need to look at removing some features or functions/menu options - just to ensure the UI is not in danger of becoming just a hodge podge of well intentioned but infrequently used functions.
If posting files to this forum - you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded - thank you.

Best regards

So the key is that user need to launch the viewer firstly or not. If I launch viewer from its shortcut every time after I boot my PC, and never close the viewer until the PC be shutdown. Then, the dialog stuff would be not necessary.

I still think the dialog stuff in firefox or maxthon was good. But I can totally understand what John say.
