Thank you for your help.
If I try to connect two sections of text that are highlighted with highlighting in between, the new highlighting runs over the old highlighting and increases the intensity of the highlighting where it overlaps. This happens because the ends of highlighted sections are bowed out. The only way to maintain the consistency of the highlighting color is to delete all prior highlighting and re-highlight the entire section. Is there a setting to prevent PDF-XChange from increasing the intensity of highlighting when a second layer of highlighting is applied, or is there is setting to prevent the ends of highlighted sections from bowing out?

Re: Overlapped highlighting makes color brighter
Hello hsrstud,
You are probably using the highlight tool with high levels of transparency (low opacity) as only with over 80% transparency I was able to see the colour getting more solid because of that overlapping.
Unfortunately you can not change the way the Highlight tool curves at the ends, nor can you append highlights to one another without removing the old highlights and applying a new one for the whole bigger selection of text.
A solution could be to make the colour 100% solid (no transparency).
Best Regards,
Stefan

Re: Overlapped highlighting makes color brighter
Transparency isn't a reason.
Highlight annotation is placed over page's content (including previous annotations) using Multiply blend mode.
And overlapping of two highlights will make brighter color.
Into new build we will allow to modify blend mode for annotations, and for "Darken" mode will be useful in your case.
But please note, blend modes for annotations are not supported by Acrobat, Foxit, etc.

Re: Overlapped highlighting makes color brighter
Ok, thank you for addressing this concern. How will the blending show up in these other pdf viewers?

hsrstud,
Other viewers would be able to display them with the same blending mode, but if someone tries to edit e.g. the colour in another application (that does not offer different blending modes), blending will disappear.
Regards,
Stefan
