Callout tool

Post by fredrix »

The callout tool shape is rectangular as in standard.
Is it possible to get circular shapes of the callout tool in Comment Styles Palette?
And also the Line Ending Style to be solid?

Hi Fredrik,

The main text area can only be rectangular, but you can change the ending arrow to a circle (or square/diamond etc. - there are quite a few options).

When you open the Comment Styles Palette (or right click on a callout object and select properties -> Appearance) you can set all the available settings for the callout tool.

Best,
Stefan

Hi Stefan
I know that, but my question is, is it possible to make changes in the program to make this feature work?

of course with a fee

Hi fredrix

specifically, are you making a feature request to have an option to set callouts to elipses as well as rectangles?
Best regards

Hi fredrix,

most thing in life are possibe... 8) The question is, with the large number of feature requests and the need to keep feature bloat under control, will it be considered as something that should be done. It will be added to the requested feature list and due consideration given it, I would not expect to see this however in the immediate future.

Hi again
Why I wonder about this is that it can be a outstanding tool when spooling drawings for welding pipe systems built for the process industry, oil raffinadery etc..
When scanning a drawing into pdf, the tracing of welding joints, spools e.g. is perfect with this tool where welding joints is marked with numbered circles. It´s also common to mark up other types of equipment, why I wonder of different shapes.

Today it´s common to do things like this manual with a pen and a template for different circles.

Any interest in this?

Hi again fredrix,

I myself with several years experience in pipefitting in Albeta's 'Oil Patch' and having created many ISO drawing for welders can thoroughly appreciate your comments. It does seem like a usefull feature in that context. Perhaps this consideraton will throw more weight behind this feature request.

PDF specification doesn't support circular callout annotation.
Providing custom annotations isn't a good idea because another PDF applications will not support them.

You might want to try using a Page Layout program or Drawing program for this kind of Work. Open the PDF in OpenOffice Draw, PagePlus, or DrawPlus and add the annotations as vector shapes. Then output to a new PDF file.
