unicode problems ??

Post by mkengel »

Hello.
Is the following problem a problem with viewer or with the website which made the pdf:

see page:
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khmer-Schrift
Chapter "Konsonanten" just before "Buchstabenfüße" are some characters from Cambodian - in my browser (Firefox) no problem.
Do I click the action "make a pdf copy" - left menu under "Werkzeuge"
http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?tit ... &writer=rl
I get a pdf where I cannot see the Cambodian characters.

Where is the problem ?
With the viewer or with the software which created the pdf ?

Thank you
Michael

Hi Michael.
I'm afraid we can do nothing with this - the generated PDF file is not correct (Acrobat 8/9 display same results).

The Problem is that the font used to display text is replaced by boxes (default character, used for unmapped characters) and is not properly embedded.

This font use's embedded encoding, where characters used to display Cambodian letters are mapped into glyph 0 (zero, the default character for most TTF files).

All you can do - contact the person who responsible for the file generation and ask him to correct file.

HTH.
