Using Version 2.0 build 42.4 of the free viewer. Windows XP Home. I am starting my evaluation of the product before committing to purchase. Slowly educating myself by reviewing the help guide (very nice!) but I am stumbling when it comes to exporting the comments I enter. The export file is .FDF and, while I have tried to educate myself about this filetype, I have yet to figure out how to open/display it.
My basic goal is to be able to read and mark-up a PDF and then export those comments separately.
Any advice for this newbie would be greatly appreciated!
you can certainly create a new blank document and import your comments from that fdf file using Comments --> Import Comments. This will put all your comments in their respective coordinates on the page. I suspect however that the functionality you are looking for might better be serveed using Comments --> Sumarize Comments...
try it out and let me know if this is what you want.

Many thanks, Paul! It appears I will need the PRO version of the product to do this, but it is good to know the capability exists. I will also investigate if/how the free version lets me save the comments I make in a PDF to that PDF (or a copy).
regards
John

Xchange Lite refers to the printer driver that creates pdf files. Xchange Lite does not include a Pro Version of the Viewer. It is the driver and a free version of the viewer, which you're already previewing. So, the $25 you refer to above, will not buy you the ability to summarize comments. That will be available to you if you purchase, PDF Xchange Viewer Pro.. for $34.50 , or Xchange Pro V4, which includes everything.. the tools, the print driver, and the Pro Viewer.
I bought the Viewer first and then came back in a couple of weeks and bought Xchange Pro. It's hard to be disappointed in a product like this.. Their customer service is superlative and their ongoing efforts in development give each of us with a license a sense that the product is getting better and more valuable as time goes by.

You've all been so informative that I will risk another question (after having checked the FAQ first!): Does a single user license allow me to have a copy on my desktop and my laptop? Ambidextrous as I might be I can only use one at a time. Would that constitute a single user even if the software is on both?
Thanks!
The deed is done! I purchased the $34 version and all the PRO marks are gone. I get the feeling this will be a nifty little tool for me.
Now, if I may impose again, where should I go to learn about these FDF files? In other words, once I produce an FDF, how do I open and read it?
I think I understand the Summarize Comments option, but this FDF has me puzzled. I'll check the FAQ but if anyone can give me a lift up I'd appreciate it! Also, is there any way to modify the actual output of the Summarize Comments option? All I need is the page and line number and the comment.
best regards
John

Sure, if you open the summarize comments dialog (Comments -> Summarize Comments...), you will be able to choose how the comments will appear in the summary. It's the "Layout" section in the dialog. As I understand, you want the most left option "Comments only".
