Print Problems with embedded fonts!

Post by josch »

Hi,

I get some very very strange results when printing with embeded fonts.
Here is page 1 of a document: original.pdf
If I print it to PDF X-Change 4 Pro this is the outcome: 1d.pdf (some Wrong letters... e.g. 4. line and last line)
If I print to FinePrint, the preview looks like this: 1fp.png
If I export it as bmp from FinePrint, this is the outcome: 1fpexp.png
And if I print from FinePrint to PDF X-Change, it is total crap: 1fp.pdf

If I enable to "Print Text as curves" (here: setting.png) it works just fine, except for the dotted line which looks ugly.
Output: curvy.pdf

Why is it not working with "Auto" and can you fix this, or at least make it print text as curves as default??

Hi Josh,

What build of the print driver are you using?

Got to the printer list and right click the PDF-XChange 4 printer and select Printing Preferences, click the About tab.

I think maybe that in the Printing Preferences, Fonts section do you have "Embed all fonts" and "Embed Extended Font/Character Info" both checked? That might clear things up. After you check those boxes print the same word document to the PDF-XChange 4 Printer and see if that works.

Thanks,
Chris

It is not a PDF I created! The problem is with the Viewer. Adobe Acrobat Reader prints the document fine!
The Viewer I use is the newest! (Build 42.6 Pro)

The original PDF is created with "Mac OS X 10.4.11 Quartz PDFContext" and Word, if this helps. This info was changed when I extracted the first page.

Yes, agree, trouble is in the PDF-XChange printer and it will be fixed in the next build.
If I print to FinePrint, the preview looks like this: 1fp.png
If I export it as bmp from FinePrint, this is the outcome: 1fpexp.png
And if I print from FinePrint to PDF X-Change, it is total crap: 1fp.pdf
Problem is in FinePrint - looks like it doesn't support specifying text as a set of glyphs, not characters.
If I enable to "Print Text as curves" (here: setting.png) it works just fine, except for the dotted line which looks ugly.
Output: curvy.pdf
Will check why dotted like looks different from the original document.

P.S. By the way, there are no problem with printing this document on real printer, for example, HP LJ P2015
PDF-XChange Co Ltd. (Project Director)

When attaching files to any message - please ensure they are archived and posted as a .ZIP, .RAR or .7z format - or they will not be posted - thanks.

Thank you for your answer.
I am looking forward to a new version of PDF-XChange and I also notified the fineprint people about the bug in their software :)

Thank you Josch,

for locating this trouble with our software and helping us remove it, and I do hope the guys in FinePrint will also solve their part :)

New versions are released every 4-6 weeks, so it will not be long until the fix finds it's place in the installation files available to everyone.

Regards,
Stefan
