Unable to change/create new bookmarks

I just got a new pdf file which has already several bookmarks in it.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why I can't change the existing bookmarks or create new ones. When I open the bookmark properties, all of "Up, Down, Add, Edit ..., Delete, Reset" ... are grayed out.

Is that a setting I am ignoring that is preventing me from creating/changing bookmarks? The file is writeable.

Hi shankarswamy,

A) Goto to help->about and let me know what version of the viewr you are using and what operating system you are using.

B) Please check the security settings of the document you are trying to edit the bookmarks in , choose File->Document Properties->Security and see that you can make these kinds of chnages to the document.

C) If you are using the lastest version and the security settings allow editing of bookmarks please zip a copy of the document in question and attache it to the post and we'll analyze the issue from there.

Here are the details:

Security Method: Password Security.

Document Permission Detail:

Printing: High Resolution
Changing the Document: Not Allowed
Content Copying or Extraction: Allowed
Authoring COmments and Form Fields: Allowed
Form Fields Filling or Signing: Allowed
Content Accessibility Enabled: Allowed
Document Assembly: Not Allowed.

Switch Owner option prompts me for a password which the vendor of the document has not supplied us.

I can add notes, mark, highlit etc. but can't add a bookmark.

Hello shankar swamy,

The bookmarks are considered as part of the base structure of the document itself so adding/deleting is modifying the document itself which you are not allowed:
Changing the Document: Not Allowed

While all notes/mark-ups are considered annotations and are stored in a separate "layer" and you are allowed to add them:
Authoring Comments and Form Fields: Allowed

So the permissions for bookmarks and annotations are different for this document and that's what's causing you the problem.
