I demo'ed the pdf-xchange software and when I printed from an estimating system I created a footer using DocName, which worked. By that I mean if I named the file dog.pdf then the footer showed dog.pdf.
I purchased PDF-Xchange 4 Pro and now the DocName seems to be something it is getting from the application (like builder or engine) I don't think I did anything to make this happen so I am thinking this is a difference in version or something like that.
Any suggestions?
thanks,
DocName is wrong

Hi rturner,
In the printing preferences of the PDF-XChange 4 Printer in your printer list is Header/Footer settings, installing the new version may have reset these so have a look and see what's listed, if it's still unclear please do get back to us.
Regards,
Chris

Re: DocName is wrong
I guess I am wrong about this ever working. I see how docname works from a file on disk but what I am trying to do would be like creating a pdf from notepad without saving the file. The docname will be untitled since it was never saved.Chris - Tracker Supp wrote:Hi rturner,

I have a watermark set up and a footer. They work great once I have properly named files on disk.
I also see how to overlay a batch of files in one directory and place them in another directory with the same file name. This does not add a footer though. Is there a way to batch pdf (applying the footer and watermark) a whole directory of files?
Thanks for any help...

Hi rturner,
Not sure about the footer, but you can do these batch functions using PDF-Tools which is included with PDF-XChange PRO. I know it does batch watermarking, I can look into the footers

yes pdf-tools is what I saw that did the overlays. I didn't see any batch watermarking though. Is there a command line interface for a script of some sort? The footer and an overlay (or watermark) will make this perfect for me.

Re: DocName is wrong
No programmatically you'd need to use the PDF-Tools SDK and develop your own app to do such a script.
