I have been playing with this for a couple of hours and it seems to be an excellent control with a really nice responsive feel on scrolling. I am developing a highly technical (and very expensive!) application with a user base of less than 200 and have spent a long time searching for a suitable pdf reader application to incorporate. A core concept of my application is that it must run off a USB key on XP (and above) systems with no installation required and I have run into issues with the need to register dll files and particularly to run PDFxcview.exe with a regsrvr switch.
Because a USB key may have a different drive letter applied with subsequent insertions I would have to ensure that the dll was unregistered and then registered again and this is no big deal I suppose (just a bit irritating but that is minor compared to the good things about your product) BUT what actually happens when PDFxcview.exe is run with the regsrvr switch - what changes are made to the host computer? are they just reversible registry writes or are components installed?
Thanks in advance

Re: Using PDF-XChange Viewer SDK for portable applications
Hi, deckchairboy.
The new version of our SDK will contain only one DLL-file (standard inproc. com-server) and you will be able to use special "Registration-Free Activation" for it (see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms973913.aspx).
We are working on the new version now for release later this spring if all goes well ...
Best
Regards.
I understand you, but we cannot change this registration-scheme in the current realization.Because a USB key may have a different drive letter applied with subsequent insertions I would have to ensure that the dll was unregistered and then registered again and this is no big deal I suppose (just a bit irritating but that is minor compared to the good things about your product)

The PDFXCview.exe /RegServer or PDFXCview.exe /UnregServer updates registry information only(register/unregister internal com-server)....what actually happens when PDFxcview.exe is run with the regsrvr switch - what changes are made to the host computer? are they just reversible registry writes or are components installed?

Re: Using PDF-XChange Viewer SDK for portable applications
Thank you for the prompt response, I will postpone my purchasing decision and continue to rely on external readers until you have released the new version. The potential for complaints if your product is already in use on a machine and someone removes the usb key without allowing my app to reverse any registry changes is just too hideous to contemplate- I really need an isolated dll solution to maintain my sanity.
While I am waiting can you point me in the direction of a reference list of commands for the doverb, setproperty etc commands? I am unable to open the vb.net example projects - I just get told that my version of visual studio (2005) is prior to the version used to build the examples so I cannot investigate the examples and there does not seem to be a reference in the documentation.
If not don't worry I can probably reassemble the examples so they work but it all takes time
regards
Paul

Re: Using PDF-XChange Viewer SDK for portable applications
I am afraid our Viewer project team are on their Christmas break for the next couple of days (in Ukraine) - ad this is going to be one for them ..
Will ensure they respond as soon as they are back, apologies and thanks for your patience.

Hi, Paul.
Thanks.
We will resolve this problem in the future.I am unable to open the vb.net example projects - I just get told that my version of visual studio (2005) is prior to the version used to build the examples so I cannot investigate the examples and there does not seem to be a reference in the documentation.
Thanks.
