How can I view multiple PDF's simultaneously with PDF XChange? I often need to compare two documents side by side. With Adobe Reader I just opened a new window for each document.
Thanks!

Hi Craig,
Goto Edit->Preferences and at the top uncheck tabbed documents, this will allow you to use the Windows-> Tile options.

Chris

Chris, this is way to obscure. This is a very useful and necessary function, and should be readily available. Never, while trying to get this function to work, have i both unchecked "tabbed documents", and looked at the menu to see if "tile vertical" was enabled.Chris - Tracker Supp wrote:Hi Craig,

I have the following suggestion: when "tabbed documents" is unchecked, show the " -, box & X" window-resizing-options at the top-right of the window. ( i noticed that it is located next to the help menu. This is unique to PDF-XChange Viewer. Unique behaviors are not a good idea. Work to peoples habits.). This will give the user immediate visual confirmation that they have the ability to re-size and arrange the multiple windows (like in every other windows program). Also, you may want to show a "pop-up" notification, when someone tries to use the "tile" menu items, telling them how to enable them ( i spent ages trying to enable them, gave up, then tried again weeks later, etc).
Another thought: as i spend about 85% of my time using tabs, and 15% comparing documents (which needs side-by-side windows), it would be great to have an optional icon in the toolbar, to switch between these modes. It would also be awsome to have the ability top make side-by-side windows scroll together, as i am able to do with some other windows-based programs.
Fantastic program. Thanks for all your efforts. Look forward to the next new release.

I wonder why you didn't read the help file (F1) when you found that the tile options were greyed out? A quick search for "Tile" or "Window" would have found this on page 167:
Window
Window activates a pull down of window options. These control how the various windows are arranged on your screen. PDF Document display control is on the View menu.
Window menu is activated when Tabbed Documents from the Edit > Preferences > General and Navigation Tabs from the View menu are unchecked.
Applications do not all behave the same. They never have done, and never will. Users should be prepared to adapt when switching applications.
