Thumbnail of 1st page in PDF not visible in file manager
I have my PDFs organized by category folders. When I view the contents of a folder with most file managers, I have the option of seeing the PDF file detail, icon, thumbnail, etc. When Adobe Reader is associated with the PDF, I can turn on the thumbnail view and see a thumbnail of the first page in the PDF. This is really useful when scanning a number of documents, magazines or books in the folder because it is simpler and faster to identify the item you are looking for by scanning the thumbnails rather than reading each file name. However, when XChange Viewer 2.0 Free is associated with the PDF in Windows XP SP 2, the thumbnail view only shows the same PDF icon for each file. Is there an Viewer option or registry setting I can turn on to see a real thumbnail of the PDF?

Apparently you have not installed the shell extension.
Another route you may find faster than browsing is to use the search pane to identify files containing a text string.

You were right. I reinstalled the program and saw the option to include the shell extension. I unchecked the option with the first install because I thought that this was used to add an entry to the context menu, which I didn't want. I didn't realize that shell extensions include other features such as thumbnail viewing. I can now see the thumbnails as required.
Thanks for the tip to use the search feature to locate pdf's with particular content.
