Hi there! I was immediately interested in PDF-Xchange because I hoped it would allow me to "take notes" on PDFs given by my professors at school. With some PDFs it works fine, with others, all the note-taking options are not selectable.
I'm guessing it's because those PDFs are "protected" from editing by a password and/or because they are scanned images only and not "real" text.
If I can't leave highlights and stickies because the document is a scanned image, I discovered the "textbox" workaround where you make a textbox, set it to 20% transparency, and then it's simulated highlighting.
But I REALLY want to be able to highlight and leave stickies (for my own benefit only) on PDFs so that I can quickly get to the important parts when I'm studying. Any workaround?
No Highlight, Sticky-Notes, or Text Boxes: workaround?

Re: No Highlight, Sticky-Notes, or Text Boxes: workaround?
I suspect that these are as you say protected (no changes allowed) or Scanned PDF's.
If you can print the PDF - to another PDF (using a Virtual PDF driver like our own or some other) you may be able to create one without the protection issues - though I would say that the author's copyright should always be respected.
If a scanned PDF - then other than OCR'ing and making a new PDF - you have found probably the best solution - also - see this KB article on our new Beta web site:
