Touchup Text Tool
Any plans on implemented the Touchup Text Tool that is featured in Adobe Acrobat? Just curious as we have users asking. Or am I missing this feature currently?
Thanks,
Dan

Re: Touchup Text Tool
Adobe Acrobat is much more than a PDF viewer. I presume that it can edit files.
Since PDF-XChange is just a viewer, I don't see that editing text is feasible. You can, however, use the text box tool with a white background and white border to overwrite existing text to correct a date or a typo.

Are you a developer of PDFXChange?
My opinion is that PDF-XChange Viewer isn't only a simple viewer.
The "text box tool" is a feature of comments, but it isn't the same things that the "touchup tool".
In some cases the user needs are little changes to the existing text (change some words, delete some text etc etc ...) and this can be (if feasible) a powerfull feature for PDFXChange.
Excuse me for my poor english

No, but I know something that you obviously don't.testtest wrote:Are you a developer of PDFXChange?
See this earlier thread
Almost all things are possible, of course, given enough development time and money, which is why I said "it is not feasible" rather than "it is not possible."
A PDF Editor would be a different product, just as Adobe Acrobat is a different (and expensive) product to the free viewer, Adobe Reader.

Re: Touchup Text Tool
We are attempting to reduce the number of Adobe Acrobat licenses in our company (currently around 200 for 800+ total employees). We have licenses of PDF-XChange Viewer Pro, which works great for the architects and engineers who need to do simple markups, however those who are project manager assistants, etc, on ocasion need to use Acrobat for some features that do not exist in PDF-XChange Viewer Pro. I realize we will never be able to rid of Acrobat, however the more we can rely on PDF-XChange Viewer for tasks, the less and less we'll think about Acrobat.
I was simply inquiring as to if this was a feature that was planned for the future. We own 1,000 licenses of PDF-XChange Pro/Viewer Pro. We've supported this company for a long time. I'm not saying we're walking away, we love your products, just looking to see what is on the table for the future.
When you tell people who are familiar with one process to change it in order to accomodate a similar need, and that change requires more steps, they tend to be against it and fight back. Just seeing what we could do to counter that.

Hi Dan,
The plans are here
and the work is in progress but when we will be able to offer such functionality is not yet certain.
Editing the underlying text in a PDF document is quite a tricky task indeed but hopefully your statement

Stefan

Re: Touchup Text Tool
I'm a new user of this software and I guess why it is not able to edit text like any other similar product (i.e. expert pdf pro, nuance pdf pro etc.). I didn't imagine that before buying it and I'm very disappointed.

Re: Touchup Text Tool
we never advertised it as being able to do as described - though it can mimic such features by adding a text box over existing content - and this is reflected in the buying price.
Full PDF editing is being added in V3 later this summer and the price for the product will then be raised accordingly - but what other product do you know that offers all we offer (with free support) and PDF creation do with a robust creation tool included for 34.50 ?

Re: Touchup Text Tool
If you are so happy with the alternate product - why on earth have you purchased something else ?
or perhaps you are not being totally frank about its short comings ...
Either way - no product is perfect and no product will satisfy all the people all the time, we are far from complacent and we are working hard on vesion 3/5 for release later this summer and I make no apologies for the current feature set of our existing products - the common consensus from our client base is that they are first class in terms of features and reliability - but we are ambitious and always looking to the next improvement.
If you have found a product you are happy with - great, but please dont use our forums as an audience for your advertisments - this forum is for those genuinely seeking help and advice for our products - please ensure thats the purpose you use them for and we can have no complaints.
And by the way - the product you specify is not $34.50 - its advertised at $95.00 on their web site as of today !!!
So even if you purchased our full PDF-XChange PRO suite - its still $20 less expensive.

Re: Touchup Text Tool
Unfortunately I discoverd it late. It has similar features + editing of text and costs 49,9 € (http://urlin.it/1897e). I spent 59 € for PDF-XChange whitout this important feature. For this simple reason I said that I was disappointed. Is it clear now?

Re: Touchup Text Tool
The acid test for me with any pdf software is if it can handle forms correctly, as most cannot. Check boxes, drop down lists, etc. I downloaded Expert PDF 6 Reader free version. It simply could not handle a form that I use regularly in PDF-Xchange Viewer where everything works correctly. I believe the Pro version referred to here would perform similarly with this form. All I tried to do was fill in a few fields, check a few check-boxes, and choose items from drop down lists. I could fill in form fields only.
P.S. The new free reader from Nitro, which has a similar laundry list of features, could not handle this form either.

Re: Touchup Text Tool
Thanks for the input Arnold - it definitely shows that each software has it's strengths.
We just can not offer everything everyone else is offering nor we are pretending we do.
But Igline we certainly do listen to reasonable requests and suggestions proposed properly and have so far implemented most of them.
And while you are complaining that something is not possible, we have shown you tools that can mimic the "touch-up" you are so whining about, as well we have already told you that a real text manipulation would be available soon (while the touch up in that other software might be still something like our text area tool but without the possibility to even move it), and as you have just recently purchased you will be entitled for a free upgrade to the new version, so OK you have paid a bit more now, but in the long term I do hope you will see that you have got the better product!

Stefan

Please can you tell me if there are previsions about the V3 version? There is a beta version to evaluate? I will be happy to try it ...

I was considering to propose an upgrade to my company (I'm interested to the Touchup Text tool), but I imagine that there are no possibilities to see released to the new version before the end of this yearTracker Supp-Stefan wrote:hello testtest,

HI testtest,
we are close now and remianing tight lipped about an actual date but I would say that you could expect something before the end of the year.
