How to open more PDF files at once from a folder?
So far using the viewer I was not able to find a way to open more than one files at once from a specific location on the computer. I have e.x. 30 files in PDF format. I would like to open them at once with selecting them all and open them all instead of opening each file separately.

Open one file. Select "Open the containing folder" from the File menu. and drag them all to the viewer from Windows Explorer.
That is currently the only way as far as I know.

Or further to Bhikkhu's suggestion - locate and highlight all files in Windows Explorer and right click - 'Open with ..'
That will open all selected files.
HTH
That will open all selected files.

Thnx. I tried the procedure Bhikkhu said and it worked. Should John's one work too. Since I had an experience with Adobe Reader and Foxit for a while would be excellent if this procedure is solved in XChange viwer in that manner....Open...and then in the pointed window to be able to select all necessary files.(this would spare some extra procedures in opening the files.

Is there any intention to implement this in future and when since I think this would be of great interest for many people using this software

As an experiment, I've just selected 26 PDFs, hit Enter and voila! - all files opened. Took about 10 - 12 seconds.
As an aside, multiple rows of tabs and the ability to edit the length of a tab would be handy (as in Opera). Also looking forward to v3 wher tabs should open in the same order as in the folder.

I am using 2.049 on Windows XP Professional sp3. Bhikkhu’s suggestion works here, but John’s does not. If I select a few files in Windows Explorer, right click and tell it to open them with PDFX, only the last file selected opens (1 file).
Using the File/Open menu option does not allow me to select multiple files (using CTRL click with the mouse) like other programs. Is this by design or is something wrong on my computer?

What is your setting in Preferences, General, Allow multiple instances?Arnold wrote:I am using 2.049 on Windows XP Professional sp3. Bhikkhu’s suggestion works here, but John’s does not. Here, if that is checked, each file is opened in its own instance of PDF-XChange. If it is not, all files are opened in one instance.

Hi Arnold,
Not letting you open more than one file from File -> Open is by design.
As for other means you can have the Viewer and a folder opened and just select and drag all files from the folder to the Viewer window, and drop them there - they will all get loaded if you do not exceed the limit your machine allows - there are some operating system placed hard limits on the amounts of threads an application can start - so expect around 50 files tops.
Best,
Stefan

PDFX is set for multiple, tabbed documents. Allow multiple instances is unchecked. If I drag multiple files onto PDFX from Windows Explorer, all files open in different tabs. If I right click on more than one file in Windows Explorer and select open with PDFX, only the last file selected opens. Tried it on another computer running XP Home sp3, same result. Only attempting to open 4 - 6 files at the same time.

Hi Arnold,
In Vista x64 it works with multiple files selected in Windows Explorer such that it does open them in tabs as you reported with drag and drop. I can test this in XP and get back to you.
