Opening a pdf w/ Viewer only opens a Command Prompt

Post by kbarb »

I have a W2000 SP4 machine on which I installed PDF-XChange Viewer v2.049 from the .exe installer.

When I click on a pdf file, I just get a command prompt showing the parent path of the current pdf file.

Alternatively, I can open the pdf using PDF-XChange Viewer if I use "Open With" from a context menu. (and I made sure "always use this program" is checked.)

I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, changing the pdf file associations from PDF-XChange IE plugin (something like that was the default) to the PDF-XChange Viewer .exe .
But nothing seems to work.

Any ideas ? Very nice Viewer though.

Thanks

Hi, kbarb.

Please follow the next few steps to apply the PDF-association :
1. run our standalone(!) application
2. go to Menu/Edit/Preferences/File Associations
3. Enable "Display in Browser" option and press "Make Default PDF Viewer" button.
4. Close application and try open any pdf by double-click.
Please let us known the result of the above.

Thanks.

Ok, I tried that but it didn't make any difference.
I still get the shell w/ command prompt showing the path of folder that contains the pdf.

I'm curious about something, btw . . . why in Explorer is "file type" shown as "PDF-XChange Viewer IE-Plugin".
I would think it would just be PDFXCview.exe
But changing the file assoc. in Explorer to PDFXCview.exe didn't make a difference anyway.

So . . . any other ideas ?

Thanks,
Kent

Sorry, but we still cannot reproduce this issue under our test configurations.
Please check your association settings using the attached instruction steps.

Yes, file associations are correct, as per that latest Fileassoc.pdf .

Strange isn't it - I've never had that problem before, and I must have a couple hundred programs on this machine.

Probably some W2000 or service pack weirdness. No big deal though. I should update it to Win7 anyway.

PDFXChangviewer works on my other two Vista machines just fine.

Thanks for trying.

Weird indeed Kent,

We are sorry but being unable to reproduce it on our side we have to count this as caused by other "mess up" on that machine rather than our Viewer.

I hope updating to Win7 will help in the situation.

Cheers,
Stefan
