Copy / Export Highlights only in in PDF

Post by palmernet »

In PDF-Xchange, I have highlighted key phrases in a document.

I would now like to copy the highlighted text into another document - how do I do this?

Your question is unclear.

You can copy the text to the clipboard and paste it elsewhere.

You can export comments to a data file. You can summarize comments to a Rich Text file if you're using the registered version.

You cannot add text to another PDF document, you can only add a text box or sticky note, etc.

If I have 20 different sections I have highlighted, and I want to export all the text in these sections, and no other text from the document, to another file, how can I do this?

Use the Summarize Comments feature.

The summarize comments function is very useful, but it seems to summarize comments, the fact of highlights, but not and not the content of highlights (only the fact that there is a highlight on a certain page). It would be nice to be able to export the highlighted text along with the page number that they are on and the comments that one has written (often about the highlighted text) so one can later quote or summarize it. If I am missing a setting, please let me know.

I could copy highlights to comments.

I still have not paid anything because the free thing does all I need (even the summarize comments feature if one does not mind a water mark which I do not), so please feel free to ignore me. Thanks for great software.

Hello Timtak,

Please open the Viewer and go to Edit -> Preferences -> Commenting and check the "Copy Selected text..." checkboxes that are right under "Making Comments Options" - and any new highlights you make will contain the text you've highlighted - so later when summarizing them you will get in the summary not just the highlight but the text as well.

It will not help with respect of already existing highlights though.

Best,
Stefan

I am sorry I am taking a year to respond (I forgot to select "Notify me when a reply is posted"). Thank you very much indeed. I have got that now and it is very useful. You are too kind.

(BTW I hope one day to try and write a MS macro that converts PDF-XChange comment files into Zotero RIS files which would allow us Zotero users to import the PDF-Xchange comments and highlights en masse and then drag them to the required item. This is the Zotero format.

Hi timtakm,

Glad to hear it's working, and certainly if you write that Macro to post is in these forums as well for the other Zotero + PDF XChange Users.

Regards,
Stefan
